Oil change appointment today turns into hole in the frame.
Driving a Corolla for at least 6 months.

If I wanted a goddamn car, I would've bought one.

I just made my last payment last week.
    Awesome.

    None....... so far.
As far as I know, they are the actual replacement leafs. Mine went in with the three leaf setup and that is what I have on it now.

I was told today that they will replace my 3 pack with a 4 leaf pack when they do the new frame.

Is this problem with rusty frames going to be an ongoing issue? Even with newer trucks?Do I have to worry 5 years from now going through this
with my 2015 or have they changed something? I plan on taking care of the frame with coating it with fluid film or whatever, but I also live in the shitty
northeast where they use a clear substance on the road that just eats metal.Dealer where I bought my truck wanted 800 bucks to undercoat my truck with no
guarantee.I said no I'd do it myself as I was looking at 7 brand new frames sitting there.

There is so much speculation online about 'what' happened and/or that they figured it out. Did they really?? Nobody really knows....... BE GLAD that Toyota is taking care of it. I think they HAD to take care of it!!! Or we'd all be shopping elsewhere.

I'm not glad about any of this. They aren't "stepping up" to help but rather to avoid litigation. There is no reason it should take 6 months or so. Meanwhile, I have to rent a truck to get things to the local landfill or to go buy baby furniture. I'm on a waiting list for a Highlander because I don't want to be without a 4x4 here in Mass when winter comes. This is not a new issue, so wtf is taking it so long?

I just sold my old headlights this morning to a guy from CT. His 06 has a hole less than 1" so he's driving his while waiting for his frame. It's already been four months for him.

The 15 I just bought is my 6th Toyota pick up.My first 4 were one '87, two '88s an '89 and an 04. They all had major rusty frames that I had to weld up until
there was nothing to weld to and then I'd get another one. The only thing that would kill 'em were the frames. All had over 200,000 miles. Toyota should've figured
it out by now.I do love my new truck,I just feel bad people have to go through this.

hogeyphenogey - I just finished paying off mine as well and they gave me a corolla. I've placed multiple formal complaints against toyota because I need this truck for work / personal reasons, i'm on a list for a tacoma from the rental shop, (that was 2 months ago)... I, like you and the rest of us, bought a truck for a reason, if I wanted a car I would have bought one... What is taking them so long is, they dont have a warehouse full of frames, they are building them on a per order basis. AND now with all these trucks coming in, they are all back ordered.

I've also raised concerns to toyota about it sitting dormant for 9+ months. I have it documented (in their systems) about my concerns for fuel separation, moisture in the oil, rotars / brakes rusting out, flat spotting on my tires, battery, clogged filters, etc....and yet no one cares at all!!! I figure atleast it's documented so if anything happens when I get it back, i may have a case - probably just a waste of my time...

I actually needed a larger capacity vehicle for work. So I have been paying extra to the rental company for one. $10 per day.

I will be submitting a claim for the expense. But in the interim I am looking after my customers.

How is it that some of these guys "need" a truck and yet somehow make a Corolla work?

    :D

Well there is a perfectly good reason. They have to have them built. The supplier has to provide frames for production frames and for replacement frames. Nobody keeps warehouses full of inventory any more, nobody. And they haven't for many years. It takes a lot to increase capacity in a manufacturing environment.

I call them once every 2 weeks, just to bug them and let them know I'm still here and want my frame... If I didnt do that, they would never call me.

They have you spending $10 bucks a day... I'm gonna lose my sh*t if they even try to have me pay...there is no way i will put a dime towards a rental truck. This is their problem, and their expense.

So I brought my truck in for the inspection today. I took it to Elmhurst Toyota in Elmhurst, IL. I watched my truck go up on the lift, saw the service manager go over to my truck with a flashlight, then he inspected it for a whole minute and a half. 15 seconds of that was spent checking something on his phone. another 20 seconds or so was spent talking to the mechanic who was working next to him. No poking around or hammering, just a quick (could care less) look under the truck. The service advisor told me there was no perforation (I declined the application of the CRC) and sent me on my way. I questioned the thoroughness and amount of time spent looking at my frame and he told me I could take it to another Toyota dealer if I wanted. At this point I do not know how to proceed to get a proper inspection? Call Toyota? Take it to another Toyota dealer? (where the same could happen) Complain to the service manager? (the same person who performed the half assed inpection)

Take it to another dealer and have them hit the area of the frame near the cat with a hammer. If breaks you get a new frame and rental for 9 months.

Isn't that lawsuit for the 1995-2000 Tacoma frames?

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
So there is a good news and bad news.
Good news is that i got a lot of parts new.
Bad news is that new frame has as bad paint job as previous one so it won't last more than 9 years. with out some kind of massive paint job to preserve it from start. Also I have tons of spills all over the truck ( i hope those are not leaks)

I am back under the truck painting my frame again...

Man, sorry to hear about the not-so-satisfying experiences and frustration, this IS a bitch for a lot, and seems to be good for others.

I have my '08 at the dealer now, as I found out (hat-tip, Fitz) mine was one. I did get under and looked at it, still a lot of fresh metal, so I think I'll be lucky with just the "rust inhibitor application", which is 2 days in the shop. Leaf springs look pretty ragged though.. They're gonna take care of the seat belt recall as well.

Gotta say I've always had a pretty above-board experience with the Toyota dealer here over the last 20 years, I'd mention the name, but there's probably rules I'd break.

..and I didn't get the truck from them.
