I would have said the same thing with 200K in CT... until they showed me a picture of the hole hidden in a corner I never thought to take the rattle can to.

What model year is your taco, tmonster?

With the leaf spring TSB, I learned about that one on here as well. Never saw a letter in the mail. When I called dealer they confirmed I'd missed the corporate (arbitrary) cutoff date by a couple months.

The seepage I found on my 2011's frame is at bend(corner?) just under pass-side door. Your Tacoma is what year, Kevin?

And I have to ask I guess. Is "the rattle can" something I can make myself without poking my eye out?

Can you guys remember if, and if possible when, you got your notification letters about the frame recall? Or did you learn about it here on TacomaWorld?

And can anybody confirm whether this effected ---- ""ALL" ---- 2nd gen"s? As somebody said on like page 18 of this thread. Thanks.

I believe it had several under coatings and lived in a garage before I had it.

Punch in your VIN on this website. You'll know which recalls apply to you. Frame recall is for 2005-2008.
    http://www.toyota.com/recall?&srchi..._Recalls|Recall_Toyota_E|Existing|Brand_Owner

Here's what the "Limited Service Campaign" lists
Limited Service Campaign E0D (Specific 20 Cold Climate States Only) - Certain 2005-2008 Model Year Tacoma Vehicles - Corrosion-Resistant Compound Application to the Vehicle's Frame

Campaign Expiration date: March 31, 2016

This is a Limited Service Campaign (LSC). This campaign covers vehicles currently registered in CT DE IL IN KY MA MD ME MI MN NH NJ NY OH PA RI VA VT WI WV, & D.C. Toyota has received reports that certain 2005 through 2008 model year Tacoma vehicles operated in specific cold climate areas (Cold Climate States) with high road salt usage may exhibit more-than-normal corrosion to the vehicle’s frame. Toyota investigated these reports and determined that the frames in some vehicles may not have corrosion-resistant protection sufficient for use in these areas. This combined with prolonged exposure to road salts and other environmental factors, may contribute to the development of more-than-normal rust in the frame of some vehicles. This condition is unrelated to and separate from normal surface rust which is commonly found on metallic surfaces after some years of usage and/or exposure to the environment.
    Remedy
Please contact an authorized Toyota Dealer and make an appointment to have your vehicle inspected and the CRC application completed before 3/31/2016. If significant rust perforation is not found*, corrosion-resistant compounds (CRC) will be applied to key areas of the frame. If an authorized dealer confirms the frame has significant rust perforation*, an appropriate remedy will be provided. *Based on Toyota's Criteria.

So...for those with 2005-2008, better get your trucks inspected SOON or you'll be shit out of luck.

    tacomonster23, Janster;

Sorry for the trouble. If there are any answers as conclusive and authoritative as yours back there in the previous 40 plus pages then the bad is on me.
    Thank you, both.

Closed out last evening over on a great POR-15 thread. Arrg. Hoping I won't have to break out the MIG for pinholes in the frame seams I expect I am going to find. I was shocked to see a 4 year old frame looking so corroded.

I pledge to look up the VIN for the details (bowing to you both) which is a good idea for zeroing in on optimal-value, aftermarket parts anyway.

For the record, being 30 miles from the nearest car wash and the way modern consumer automotive frames let debris in but don't let it easily channel out, kinda conspired against me. Garage is too small and I have no room to build a skating rink for 5 months.

    btw, tacomonster23,
Here's hoping your worstest, baddest bad of all won't be yet to come. Uhm. Failing to notice Janster is not an, uhm, that is to say, a 'him'?

Unfortunately, Janster, your kudo credits will be delayed until I stumble onto to that feature by accident. <g>

Now who wants to buy a hazmat suit and come out for a 3-day rust chipping and POR-15 party?

Update on my truck. Got it back today and everything looked fantastic. This was a premature feeling. After departing the dealership I got about 5 miles and heard this loud crunching sound from the front end drivers side. I pulled over to see the inner fender liner completely torn up as it was missing a bolt and was barely hanging on. What's left of it that is. No big deal I zip tie it make a call and have them order the part. I proceed driving and after a few more miles notice a ticking sound when I turn the wheel. I pull over again only to surmise that something is amiss with the steering rack. Deal breaker as the truck isn't safe to drive in this condition. Make another call to inform them I'm headed back to pick up my rental Camry again. Story isn't over just yet. As I near the dealership the hood pops open and if not for the security latch, someone including myself could have seriously been injured. I'm not even mad at this point because I didn't expect it to be done correctly. 6 months and it wasn't even done right. i expected nothing less.

Oh the frame and leaf springs look great, but as expected the job wasn't done correctly. I didn't drink the cool aid from my case manager when he told me months ago "we've been doing frame replacements for years now it will be done right don't worry". Yeah ok Kevin at corporate. Keep spewing your bullshit.
