Thanks! That's what they told me, hopefully that timeline sticks. Let us know how yours feels after it's done.

Mine passed the frame check in late 2013 and was coated. Failed June 2015. I think it was still under warranty till next year. The salesman called it though. He said most of the time the coating does nothing if there is even a little rust starting. Unless it was a brand new truck or I was at the end of the Frame recall date and it passed I wouldn't bother having them do it. Deep down we all know its somewhat of a relief when it fails (and is covered) lol!

Been reading through this thread for a good while now and have taken it upon myself to get involved with the frame swap fiasco. I have a 2008 DCSB that has been registered in Ohio and VA throughout it's life and just passed over 100K about a month ago. I figured I'd get hot on the issue given the March deadline. Ironically, the frame near the cats is in damn near perfect shape whereas there are other areas that are concerning. I'm seeing quite a bit of separation of the frame and "wrinkling" of the metal per se. The welds around the spring hangars are seeing a good bit of rust as are most other welds on the frame.

How should I proceed given the pics below? I'm very weary of the frame coating but I'm not certain that it'll fail at this point but would like to get some feedback as to the general shape of the frame and how it will fare upon inspection. I'm hesitant about getting the coating applied and effectively put a bandaid on what will become a major problem down the road.

The 3rd and 6th picture down looks like they will fail the frame, IMO. The dealers WANT to do a frame replacement. They make $$$$$.
I would take an awl and see if u can poke through those rusted areas. If u can, the tool they use to punch through the rusted frame as a test will go right through it.

At this point wait until after the winter.
    Then take it in.

I actually took a ball peen too it earlier and didn't get through but it felt softer than the rest of the frame. Hit it a couple times and could feel a protrusion on the other side of the soft spot on the outer side of the frame. Any idea on the layered part that's splitting? Looks as if it's rusting from the inside as many others on here have experienced. Does that warrant replacement?
    Note taken, appreciate your input.

With a little persuasion, a hole can prob be attained :) Then wait a little and let nature enhance it before you bring it in.

It's still a problem. I just got new frame and it has crappiest paint job one can do. There is visible metal.
Dana was bought by Metalsa which is now frame manufacturer for Toyota.

It's my understanding you must have it inspected by 3/16.
    Check corporate web site.

My frame was in better condition than that, registered in TN and NC. They managed to put a hole in it and fail it. Just take it in.

Just take it in..... and let Toyota do whatever they do - because its better than nothing. If you get the 'coating' applied, I believe it will extend the warranty on the frame. Get details and get it in writing. VERSUS - if you deny getting the frame coating and 5 years from now you develop serious holes/soft spots...you're screwed and won't be covered.

My frame actually looks pretty damn good....I had one soft spot that I figured was just 'surface'. I took it in....they poked a hole right thru it and failed it. I was amazed it failed. It was only a 2" hole. http://www.lieblweb.com/Temporary/frame.jpg
I have appointment Oct 22nd to get the frame replaced.

The dealer called a week ago and told me the parts were in and to bring in the truck. When I get there they said sorry, we're still waiting for the wiring harness. Got a call today that they have no idea when they will get the harness.

    Congrats 81shark !

Anyone notice you cannot "build" a virtual 2016 Toyota at Toyota.com (other models you can) .... also My area Toyota dealers have new 2016's but not Tacomas?? Possible leaf spring, wiring harness and frame shortage????

the guy that called me from toyota(doesn't)care said all my parts were in. he also mentioned, somebody recently received a frame after only 6 weeks. supposedly they are having weekly inventory meetings on Fridays.

wonder if my dealer will call before they start? i'd call my service adviser, but he quit 6 months ago

Maybe they finally figured out it's cheaper NOT to sell them - than sell them and then recall /fix them !!
