They probably didn't want to work on it. (Frame) so they BS you that it was good.

Is it the hose or the metal line on the steering rack? The line on the rack isn't available as a seperate part from Toyota. The whole rack needs to be replaced. I just did the rack and some hoses and it was almost $2k from the dealer. This was a 2WD Prerunner.

Mine had much less rust on the frame to the point that I wasn't going to take it in. The airbag light came on so I took in for the spiral cable assembly and asked them to do the frame inspection also. FAILED. Took them around 2 months to get the frame and accessories and hardware in. Took the truck in yesterday, they said a couple weeks. Looking forward to it. When I asked the lady at the service desk (after inspection) if I needed to call and check on the status of getting everything in she said, "Oh no, this is a big money maker for the dealership, they will be on top of this".

On a sidenote, after they fixed the spiral cable assembly the light came on again just a few weeks later. I told them about it and told them I would like it replaced again as the previous fix didn't actually fix it. Anyone else have that issue?

While mine just went in yesterday I was told that everything that goes on the frame would be replaced at no charge to include brake and fuel lines, hangers, rear springs if needed (will be replaced when redesigned ones come out either way), etc.
Will post follow up in a couple weeks (if all goes well) about my experience and the results.

They didn't even look at it then.. I would give that dealership hell and have them reverse their findings and take it to another dealership for the replacement.

    Yes,
I have been wondering what steps to take. I'm a little agitated.

I see that you are from Boone. This happened at Modern Toyota in Boone.

This is for those of you who've already gotten a frame replacement.

My '07 has 97,000 miles and I understand from what I've read so far and what my Toyota tech told me that there may be things I need to replace (at my own expense) when I get the new frame installed. I know my suspension is shit so I'm ok with replacing that. I've had my eyes on the Toytec 1.5 inch leveling kit for some time so it will be nice to have it installed, especially at no labor charge. My timing cover is also leaking oil. How likely is it that they'll do that as part of the swap? Will I be charged some labor or no labor but only for the gasket and minor parts? (Fingers crossed)

From your experience, what else can I expect will need replacing that is not covered? I need to save up for this stuff. I've gathered tons of info from this thread but I want to be completely prepared when my number is called.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions! All you TW members are awesome!

I used to be up there, Appstate!, but now I live around Raleigh..It's sad to hear that experience from them. I'd definitely take it back and give them hell, also contact Toyota Corporate.

As preventive maintence and at reduced (but not free) labor cost, I had the water pump done, spark plugs, radiator hoses and serpentine belt done. They put on new shocks (5100) for free. They recommended and I also replaced the stabilizer links, shifter cable and a couple of cab mount bushings. I bought the parts through the dealer since I get a small discount. I could have gotten OEM parts cheaper online but the dealer wouldn't warranty them and some I wouldn't have had the time to bring in. The shocks were aftermarket obviously. Talk to your dealer and ask how they are charging and ask about free labor for things that need to be swapped out. I spent about $1400 parts and labor at the dealer plus the $350 for the four shocks. Mine is an 05 Prerunner with 145k miles.

My timing chain cover is also leaking, really interested in what they'd charge to replace that gasket while its torn apart.

They'll replace the rear springs anyway as part of the recall. If you want them to install the front springs/struts, GET A QUOTE first. You can do this yourself rather easily and cheaper if the quote $ is way too high.

Anything else you want them to do...GET A QUOTE first!!!! Then - research your options/costs to have it done somewhere else or DIY.

DON'T EVER allow the dealership free reigns to replace stuff!!! AND ALWAYS make sure they GET PERMISSION from you before doing anything!!! GET IT IN WRITING if you can....

Have you had your frame replaced? I've already been told they'll install the front springs/struts at no charge. The AAL in the toytec kit should be pretty easy to add to the new R springs so I don't see them charging me for that either. I'm no fool.

Yes...I've had my frame replaced. As long as you 'trust' what they've told you 'word of mouth' - that's fine. However - Putting new coils & struts and an AAL in - is extra work for them. I'd verify they 'understand' exactly what you're asking them to do.

Some dealerships aren't so trustworthy...just sayin......you can read the evidence all over the forums. I'm lucky that my dealership called me to 'suggestive sell' doing extra work - and I denied all of it.

I thought my dealer was pretty good. Since the dealer is near where I work I swung by almost every day. One of the service guys would take me in the shop to take photos and talk to the tech working on my truck. I didn't feel any pressure to have extra work done and with the stuff they recommended, I was given a quote for parts and labor plus what the discounted labor rate would be.
