:wave:Took mine in for the same reason (had 5 recalls needing to be done) and the airbag light was on. When I picked it up, I got about 2 miles from the dealer when my light came on again. Back to the dealer and left the truck, with them giving me a loaner for 2 days because they had to order another spiral cable. So far all is good and it's been about a month or so. Just waiting to get the call on the new frame.

You should not be charged labor by the dealer to replace any part that must be removed from the old frame & installed on the new frame.
You will be charged a possible reduced labor charge to replace a item like the timing cover.
Since the engine is already out of the frame,& other items are out of the way it makes it easier & faster to replace items.
I hope that helps,& yes I've had my frame replaced.

    None yet...
They just called and have my truck completed already! Just over 1 week. No charge. Said spiral cable is fine, messed with connections under driver's seat and reset the indicator light. Said if it goes off again they'd have to replace the seat sensor or connector assembly under the seat. Not so sure that it won't just need another spiral cable though. Guess time will tell. Will post again after driving my Taco for a week or so.

I agree with Janster. It sounds like either that dealer is giving you a major hookup, or they don't have a firm understanding on the work being requested. My dealer has been great, but even those guys told me they were going to charge me $300 to assemble my coil/strut assembly if I brought everything in individually. And they wouldn't even consider installing an AAL. I brought my coil/strut assembly into them assembled, and they didn't charge for that, because that was the same amount of work for them. I would think the AAL for most dealers is a liability issue, especially in light of all the leaf spring issues. Beyond that, I would imagine that would be a good 1.5 - 2 hours of extra labor.

I hear ya. They've been replacing frames for months so they are either lying (totally possible) or they explained it correctly. I do plan to have my shocks pre-assembled and ready to put on. I'm getting new leaf springs- or at least that's what I was told. Installing an AAL should not take long at all. Some dealers will and some won't. Hopefully mine will (not sure I mentioned that to him?).

This stuff I'm not concerned with. Its the "other" bits and pieces. I'm not sure what the dealer should be replacing as part of the frame recall. What will they try to get me to pay for that I should absolutely not have to?

Really you shouldn't have to pay for anything. Many dealers will give you the option to replace things that will be easily accessed, or being disassembled anyway, at either a reduced rate, or for free.

The short (unofficial) list (beside frame itself) is rear leafs, lower control arms, brake lines, wiring harness. And a bunch of smaller things like engine splash guards, clips, etc.

I just recently got my 05 back from the dealership and I have to say I'm not impressed. I dropped my truck at the dealership in Batavia, NY and the following morning received a call saying my truck needs over $4000 worth of repairs. I lost my shit. Service manager then stated that these are only suggestions, I declined and said to let me know when truck was completed. 5 days later I received a call saying they can't finish my truck unless I buy 2 new calipers $500+ because the bleed screws were seized and would break if they try to bleed the brakes. I was not pleased and said do what you got to do to get my truck back together. After thinking that over i decided to call customer care and explain my frustration. I feel that i brought them a running driveable truck and expect to receive the same back, they are the ones wanting to replace the frame and should absorb any expense to make that happen. I ended up agreeing to pay 25% of the cost of 2 calipers.
7 days in I get the call that its ready and go to pick it up. I drive off and when I get to about 35-40mph I get a terrible noise from the front. After pulling into the local walmart i see that both front inner fender wells were not clipped in and rubbing the tires and put a hole in the right side one. I drove back and they put the necessary hardware on. I would think they would at least drive the truck down the road and give it a good look before calling the job complete. After driving the truck a few more days i then notice the front right federwell is covered in grease and found that to be the cv boot sliced open. Possibly from the plastic fenderwell getting sucked back into it. Back to the dealership and they said they will order part and take care of it but I haven't heard anything from them in over a week. Other issues I have noticed is a terrible vibration at 40-50mph under acceleration and braking. Rear mudflap not secured to truck with the 3 push pins that are used to help keep it tight to body. I know that was not that way because just a few months ago i replaced one flap and put new pins in all 4 flaps. Another thing I have noticed is the gas cap no longer has the keeper that keeps it attached to the truck. This seems like such a small detail but I have noticed when getting gas I now have to try to not lose the cap that I'm holding in my hand. Now steering has some slop to it that wasn't there before.
My truck wasn't perfect when I dropped it off but It has always impressed me with how tight and how well it drove for a truck thats 10 years old and 120k miles. I no longer feel that way when I jump in the truck but now notice all the shit that they screwed up. I still feel that toyota makes an excellent truck but feel they made a mistake thinking they could tear it apart and get it back together and expect it to drive the same. I still don't understand how dumping $12K-15k makes more sense than offering an option to upgrade to either a new tacoma or tundra.

Anyone else on the hook for $ they didn't expect to pay? All I want is the frame swapped out - instead I'm getting quoted $5380 for parts that the dealership is saying will need to be replaced as they'll be damaged in the rebuild. I've been going back and forth with Toyota for 2 weeks to no avail. Finally decided to put it all together in the hopes that those searching the internet for a solution see that its not exactly an easy fix. >> http://tacomaproblems.com

Full list at the website tacomaproblems.com but they've pretty said that they're not sure what they can take off and not damage. As a result, they're quoting a little over 5K in parts that aren't covered in the recall. Way more than I can afford at this time and it seems Im at the point where I either accept the cost or they give me the truck back as-is.

Man,i can t beleive that these Dealers are making you pay.
I had my frame changed last February, and i didnt have to pay one penny.
The only part that i paid was my muffler which had a whole in it,and they gave me a great deal on that muffler which was brand new ,but belonged to a guy that had dual exhaust installed on his new truck.
So i paid close to half price of what they usually are.
I feel sorry for these guys that have bad experiences like them.
I also never had to go back, for any issue.
    All the best

They had the same approach with mine saying some parts may not be reused. Tranny lines power steering lines supposedly some crack in my exhaust that was going to break when removing. The exhaust alone was going to be over $1200.
All that was in the $4000 quote and they managed to get it all put back together. But after driving it who knows how well they did. With the issues I have had it makes me wonder what else underneath the truck that I'm not seeing was half assed.

Meanwhile they got the muffler for free... because the guy said, "just throw it away"

I'm currently in the process of getting a new frame on my 2005 tacoma, they said the frame is in and will get it in this week. After reading this thread I'm nervous about taking it in lol. My truck drives awesome right now.
Best of luck to you guys

Dan Brown, I see on the list of parts needed that one of the most expensive items they say you need is a catalytic converter, is there something wrong with one of your cats?

Another part needed is an exhaust, buy a TRD for under 300 bucks. You get the cool TRD stainless tip and a cool sound :)
Or, many members here give away their exhaust after they upgrade. I have a spare I'd be happy to give it to you if you were closer.

And that dealership is raping you on parts prices. http://trdtoyotaparts.elmoretoyota.com/oe-toyota/174100c100. You were quoted $1922.22, buy it here for $1,281.48.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
I think we all got zapped with this. Plus all the parts they removed now will have problems. If you slide cv out of the seal it will pretty much screwed up your seal so now you get leaking front diff. Now I have to ask them to fix this or fix it myself (which is pretty much what will happen because they will not cover)
    Its crazy.

All these problems are due to the dealer.

Got my truck back in August, just haven't been on TW lately. Truck feels brand new, best it's felt since I've owned it. Only expense I paid for was a new steering rack. Normally I do eveything myself, but in this case it was just so much easier for them to do it rather than when it was put back together. I'm very happy with how it turned out, shouldn't have taken 11 months for them to start on it after the inspection, but now that it's done I'm happy.

Along with the steering rack they had several other "recommended" fixes, but I told them to just do the work covered by the recall and I'd do the rest myself. (Stuff like wheel bearings and brakes). And they were fine with that.

Like I said, happy with the truck that I recieved back. Any issues that I've found in the past few months have been fixed right away by the dealer without any fuss. And haven't been major things.

That really sucks. If it were me, I'd dump the truck and kiss Toyota goodbye. With this and the 4.0 piston slap Toyota doesn't want to fix, it's obvious the quality rep Toyota used to have ain't there. Don't be a "fan boy" to any make, reputations change, time to try something new.
