Jesus did I open a can of worms! :annoyed:

Now I'm hesitant about purchasing the suspension kit. I'm budgeting about $1500 for this rebuild. Can't really spend more on a truck that may or may not last me another year. I'll have to trade in for '15 or '16 if they quote me these crazy numbers you guys are saying. Last thing I need is taking on another damn monthly payment. :censored::censored::censored:

Any insider info about the 09's being covered anytime soon? Seems like it's just a matter of time until Toyota feels the heat and does something about the 09's.

Not a insider info but 09+ are very unlikely to be covered by anything because
    1. NHTSA advisory about Rust for Northern States
    2. Judge claiming in the one case Toyota is not responsible beyond warranty and frame has only 3/36 warranty. (yes I know its idiotic but thats what apparently is. ) Rust perforation 8 year warranty only applies to body panels.

So between those two and a fact that Dana is gone and sold frame business, chances for Toyota to cover 09+ trucks are slim to none. Sorry guys but you better start carrying extra special for your frames.

We southerners recently got the rusty frame recall also. 08 Prerunner was called for inspection. No rust.

I was under the impression that the lawsuit was not over. There is a lot of evidence against Toyota. Also, what if someone financed their truck on a 5yr note, and they lived in the Northeast, and their frame rusts out in 3yrs? Would Toyota honestly expect someone to finish paying off a truck that's unsafe to drive? I know what I'd be telling them:

Suit is not over but its going to be very very hard to win anything because that judge is correct.
There is no warranty on frame beyond 3 years or /36 000 miles. We are the idiots who assumed rust protection is for frame as well as body panels. So unless somebody can successfully argue that Warranty paperwork was not clear, this is going to be impossible to win.
It took crazy suit for 2005-2008 trucks to get frame, and Toyota got some money from Dana. If they have to eat 100% of cost they will probably battle that with double ferocity.

Nope. I even asked a head honcho at Gulf States Toyota training facility, even before I bought my truck, if the frame issue had been addressed. His reply was yes. The suit is on the same f'n frame as the 2005-2008, I really don't see the difference. Was there not "clear" paperwork on the 2005-2008's? It's the same frame as the prior lawsuit, only difference is there was a second party to help absorb the cost/responsibility. Toyota/Lexus has quite a few of recalls that were denied initially, then forced by lawsuit. Just because they don't want to take full responsibility, doesn't keep them from making good on it. If they want to warranty the frame for 3yrs, they better drop their MSRP by 30%, because I hang onto vehicles for close to 10 years. I'm in the South, so I don't see a ton of snow, salt, and all that shit they put on the road. I don't know how all you guys in the states that have all those additives on the road during winter, aren't beside yourselves. This shit right here illustrates why I don't understand Toyota fanboys.

I dont know maybe this has been said before, Im kinda late to the party but..

I'd be curious to see if this "bad parts replacement" was mentioned in the original service order you signed. If not then you have a legal case worth perusing. If it does is there an estimate or a discounted option for them?

So are they supposed to spray an undercoating on? My dealer looked at me like i was crazy when i asked. They also stated not 1 Frame had been replaced through them..... i live in Utah where salting the roads is common practice in the winter... they tend to oversalt and then put more salt on top of that. I find this strange that not 1 frame had been replaced

Which dealer? I had mine inspected at 2 different utah dealers, they both said they'd only done a couple replacements. Been waiting on my frame about 2 months now

Bountiful. When i called in the girl answering said that they hadnt had to replace one yet, and they didnt have parts for the spiral cable. So I'll have to take it back in for that. I want to try a different dealer because Bounituful is all Ive ever used.

    Not even one frame!
Here in a small town ,when they did mind last February,it was there 25 trucks, that includes though Tundras too.
But still 25 and there were more after me,if i remembered at least another three.
Glad they did mind,it was in a very bad shape.
    Best of luck.

Though they may not be able to pin it on as an extension to the Dana issue, the good news, at least, is that Toyota still is NOT manufacturing their own frames, which means that they could potentially hold Metalsa responsible for it. At least, I think, for '11+. I'm not entirely clear on the timelines, but I think that Dana may actually still be on the hook for up to MY2010-ish.

You shouldn't expect Toyota to *care* if you are still paying it off, and if you stop paying for it, that only hurts you (credit, good luck getting a mortgage or renewal after that), not Toyota. They have insurance for that, AND they will hold you accountable, AND it can go beyond repo, if the vehicle's residual value doesn't cover the remainder of the loan.

I bought mine up there when they were still Menlove. Haven't been there in years.
I took mine to Mark Miller and then Larry H. Didn't go through with it at MM because they were very specific about front-loading it by saying "most are on the hook for at least $1500-2000 for stuff we'll break while doing the work." The service write I dealt with was worthless. Talked to the service manager, and he was much more professional and helpful, but said basically the same thing.
Larry H on the other hand said anything outside of the normal kit just needs a phone call to Toyota for approval. Also said that the only thing they hadn't been able to get approved in the few frames they've done was a license plate bolt. Exaggerating I'm sure, but the overall feel was much better, which really surprised me. I've always had fairly good luck at MM.
