Asked Danica to toss in a set of struts and shocks for free.... her reply should be entertaining.

That was purely a hypothetical. The point being that the frame issue significantly reduces the life expectancy of the truck, and is substandard, and you seem not to have a problem with it.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
I think we will have to wait and see, but its not looking good. Considering that Toyota has only 4% profit margin, Tacoma production since 1995 is nothing but a loss.

Holy cow I need to stop reading around on this forum. I have 1,800 miles on my truck and I am already worried sick! As far as the frame issues on the newer ones, if they knew about frame rusting safety issues as they clearly do since they are replacing so many, and did not change anything to correct it and do not change the new frames out like these ones, they are guilty of gross negligence and will be paying for it big time in court down the road. Warranty or not courts take safety issues(which the frame is) very seriously no matter the product. Add gross negligence on top of a safety issue and you have a lawyers wet dream.

Look at the GM ignition problem. Ignitions were out of warranty on those, but it was irrelevant because it was a serious safety issue.

Yes, please stop reading. You've got a 2015. Move along and enjoy your truck. Nothing you can do except maybe get under your truck every few months and spray over any rust.

Come back to this thread in 7 years when the frame is turning to dust.

    J/K ...sorta.:fingerscrossed:

I sure was glad to discover that my 2005 DCLB, originally purchased in FL, is now covered. I've been driving it around in Atlantic Canada for the past 6 years and it still looks good as far as I can tell. I'll be getting it in for the inspection before the "Campaign Expiration Date March 31, 2016".

Yeah for real haha. I'm going to be picking up a few cans of fluid film today and not worry about it. Only helps on what you can see but it's better than nothing.

I would hope Toyota sorted the problem out by now but they admittedly had this problem on 15 consecutive model years so I won't hold my breath. Good thing they have such great resale value eh?

upside down margins on teh tacoma... or at least it seems that way with the shitty frames

overall, toyota is at an 8% net income margin. not bad. gross margins are 19.8%.

Now I'm not trying to open up a can of worms or anything but when I bought my first tacoma, a 2001 back in 2012 my biggest concern was the frame rust. I asked every dealership what the deal was on it. And I was told that Toyota had bought the steel to build the frames of tacoma for years 1997 to 2010 (I'm estimating I know my years are not exact) from an American company that after the fact they had found out there was a coating of some sort that the American company did not tell Toyota about until after the fact and the frame recall is the end result. Please let me know if I'm wrong that is just what multiple dealerships told me when I was searching for a tacoma.

I was told that the frames were made by a company called Dana, which didn't wash the oil off the frames before treating them. Dana went under in 09. My concern was that Toyota is requiring lower quality steel and used Dana as a scapegoat. In theory if Dana not washing oil off the frames was the problem it should be fixed from 2010 or 11 forward depending on how many of those frames were left over.

Yup. Toyota makes relatively few mistakes but they fix the ones they do make. It's nice to have a company stand behind their product.

Toyota doesn't build the frames. They are purchased from an OEM Supplier as complete frame assemblies.

But Toyota does order them on an as needed basis, something that no other manufacturer does, which leads to insufficient curing times.

    Curing for what? Paint?

    I think not.
