I have an 07 and that has a similar spot ....

And yea, if you push hard enough...you could poke a hole thru it. If you put your finger on it...it's soft. I can't imagine this one spot would fail it...but then again, I'm just looking at stuff that's in front of my face.

Let us know what your results are ...You know I'm curious to know how this will end u.

Here's mine...looks like a lot of surface but nothing "too" corrosive. I dont see mine failing right now...

I recently bought it from a dealer, and they coated the frame. This is what it looks like under their spray...

That looks a lot worse than what I have. And they just sprayed over all of that rust?

I did go to a different dealer today and got a whole different story. They have an experienced mechanic with 40 frame swaps under his belt. He said probably only 4 days on the lift. (Yes it still takes 70 days to receive it.) They let me take the truck home and will call when the frame arrives to bring it back in. There should not be any additional cost unless I choose to replace something not covered...I hope this works out. Here is the 1 line item quote I signed to order the frame. [IMG]
I still have an issue with TMS using the word RECALL! This is not a recall (which is government issued). My new dealer described it as a service provided from the manufacturer UNTIL the government figures it all out and issues a real RECALL which will mandate them to replace the frames.

LaFontaine in Dearborn, MI was most helpful and I expect them to take care of me. I may end up replacing leafs through them and possibly some other stuff later.

    :D

Just got the letter yesterday. I'm thinking I might wait until the 'spring' recall is ready and get 'em both done at the same time. It's a toss up whether I take it to my local dealership or the one 30 miles away (where I bought my truck). My local dealership kinda sucks!

I think I'd rather have a new frame instead of the mess they'll spray under there. Ugh.....

My luck...I'd poke a hole in it and it'd still pass. LOL

I just got my truck back from having the compound installed. They did a really good job; the frame look new as a result. I see some on here have had bad luck with some dealers doing either a crappy job, or trying to get them to pay for things they shouldn't. For those being presented a cost, I would check other Toyota dealerships.

Back in July I brought my '06 in to the dealer for an oil change and to have the frame looked at. They said it was perforated and would probably qualify for a new frame. They took pics and sent them in for authorization and said they'd call me. Well, I didn't get a call for a while, went in for another oil change and they said they'd call me when the frame came in. To this point, I didn't know whether I was getting a new frame or not. On Nov 7 I get the call my frame was in. They replaced the frame brake lines leaf springs and a ton of other parts. I had them install new shocks and struts cuz I needed them and it was all apart anyway. Had them replace serpentine belt because I needed a new one too. Bill to Toyota: $12,000. My bill was $650. Suppose I can ignore the leaf spring recall letter I just got. Now to replace wheel bearings...

If you paid for the leafs, you can get reimbursed when they send you the 2nd letter for that recall. Sounds like a new truck for the most part.

    I recd 4 recall notices.
    Gas pedal,seat belts,frame & springs.
Spring recall is just notification. Dealer is not ready to perform any work or replacement yet.
Truck went in for other recalls last week.
I would not let them cut my pedal, seat belts were ok, new frame is on order.
The frame issue was not surface rust on entire frame( i did have some), but due to hole at cat up front.
Dealer is telling me approx 3 weeks for frame to come in, & 3 days for tech to complete work.
Anyone know what things to have replaced( body mount bushings for example)?
Truck is '07 with 50k & always garaged?

    yay for new leaf springs.
Also, I was told a couple weeks for the frame to come in, that was 10 weeks ago. They said they are just waiting for that to come in still. My dealer has 10 tacomas to replace frames on and I am the top of the list, so hopefully soon.

It's sad that Toyota is leaving the decision making to the dealers seeing how they differ from shop to shop. I wish Toyota would just make this a recall so we ALL get helped out...

Has anyone asked for the cash instead of the frame? I would rather have the cash and have a salvage title on my truck. Don't get me wrong, I like the truck but sticking $10k+ into a vehicle with 150k + miles seems wrong to me. Since Toyota bought back my last 96, I bought this 06. If they gave me cash for this one, I would likely buy another Taco as I've had a good run with them so far.

What gets me is that Utah isn't on the list. It gets fuggin cold here and they use salt on the roads since we seem to have an endless supply of that crap out here.
