Just got a call today from the first dealership I went to for frame inspection (told them I wasn't going to do the frame with them). Service advisor says "hey, long time no talk. We've got that frame in for your truck. Give me a call to schedule an appointment." WTF? I'm confused as to why a dealer would order a ~$3,400 part (not to mention all the other parts involved) for someone who didn't want them too.

Yea after the drama with your pics I'm not going to post any. In all seriousness I've heard good things about the dealership that's doing my truck. Since I can't be there to supervise the entire process(honestly who can?) I'm just going to have to trust that they will get it right and be super attentive to any issues that may arise when I get it back. That's about all any of us can really do anyway.

So I asked Toyota what it would cost to get me a new gas door. Mine has been hanging on a single hinge for about 3 years. They want $300, painted and mounted.

    Thanks but no thanks.

My apologies for getting carried away. It's all too easy to say nasty shit on the web.

...and Santa is probably watching. Would hate to get dented valve covers in my stocking! :proposetoast:

Alright guys, let's get this thread back on topic!

My truck has been at the dealership for a month now. I have not heard anything in regards to the repair, how long it would take for the frame to come it, etc., and I just received a second notice from Toyota. I am not wondering if my service guy dropped the ball. I dropped the truck off and picked up my rental the next day, I dealt with a different service guy and did not sign any paperwork. When I asked how long he thought they would have my truck, he told me that it would be finished in a few weeks. I emailed the service guy multiple times, and have not received a response.

I was given a smelly, dirty Corolla with worn tires for my rental, and told them that I would not even be able to get out of my driveway, as I am in the snow belt. They agreed to get me a Rav4, but I am still waiting on that, a month later. I'm not complaining about it though, we haven't had any significant snow yet, and they could have just told me to deal with the Corolla. If I would have known that it was going to be this long though, to get the Rav4, I would have taken the Corolla back in to have it cleaned.

Did you guys need to sign something to get the ball rolling for the frame replacement? If someone did forget to order my frame, or get it approved through Toyota, I wonder if I would even know.

I signed nothing. But my truck is drivable till the frame comes in. The dealership told me 2-3 months.

I signed nothing when my frame failed inspection. The service guy put my name and phone number in a little note book, which had a list of owners waiting for the frame swap. I was able to drive my truck until then but it sounds like you weren't. I got the call to bring the truck in about 3 months later, almost exactly how long I was told it would be. Before that, I stopped by twice to see where I was on the list.

You should ask to know where you are on their list. As for the rental issue -as long as it's getting you around I wouldn't stress over it. If the weather calls for significant snow then I'd go back and demand a better vehicle. Good luck!

I didn't have to sign anything after my truck failed inspection back in May. Was considered safe so kept it on the road until the actual frame replacement this month. What I did though was that I called the dealership multiple times to at least make sure they wouldn't forget about my truck...

I waited 10 months for mine to be complete. I was able to drive mine up until the last 3 months or so when the inspection sticker expired. At which point I dropped my truck off at the dealer, and picked up my smelly rental.
It was there for a week before I went, and picked it up and brought it home, so it could sit in my garage until it was time for the swap. I would run it once a week just to keep everything healthy. I didn't trust it sitting at the dealer, after some of the things I read about here. Not to mention entropy taking it's toll on a dormant vehicle.
