looking for help with my frame. 2007 tacoma. Had it inspected and sprayed in 2016 by toyota. Probably should have checked it again before the frame recall was over but its too late for that. .....sigh. last month i noticed a little bubble and then when I started poking it with a screw drive I could feel it was soft. After some cutting I exposed the hole. I have seen plenty of pictures of people with the same problem but haven't found much about people repairing it. What I'm looking for is some tips about how you went about repairing this hole. any pictures of your repair? Did you run into any problems? Is it worth repairing? or should I just manage the problem areas and keep on trucking. Besides the hole I got some rust in between the layers on the rear of the frame. its starting to look like a roller coaster. any idea for that? sorry for the low quality pics. and yes I panicked and sprayed it with that anti rust goop. thanks for the help!

Fluid Film or Woolwax which a lot of people prefer the Woolwax as it doesn't smell horrible like Fluid Film. Mine is a 2014 and has been sprayed since new.

I received a call from Toyota about 1 1/2 years ago with a DOOM AND GLOOM message that my 2011 Tacoma needed to get this frame rust prevention treatment, and that there had been a recall for it. This was around 2 1/2 years before my legal 12 year frame warranty wears out. I was told that a dangerous situation was occurring on trucks of the generation that I own whereby frames were falling apart and completely "delaminating" to put it exactly as they said. They said that I would need to take it in to get inspected to see if my truck needed to have the coating put on. The dealership that I took it to said that they have just been coating all Tacomas that they see come in with this recall. So what the heck right, let's git'er'done.

Up until that point, my frame had not had any particularly abnormal rust issues, and all frame rust and wear was very normal. The inside of the frame had been in excellent shape with absolutely no sign of wear or rust (I wish I had a photo of that).

Fast forward a few months later to today. The winter has now passed, and after all of the snow has melted, and I'm cleaning up my garage, there's rust drippings all over my garage floor under my truck. I thought, that's funny, I have NEVER seen this before with my truck. I look underneath, and inside the frame, low and behold, everywhere where they smeared that "Anti Corrosion Coating" on the inside of the frame, it's rusting right through from the inside out. At the rate that my truck's frame is corroding, I doubt that I will get another 2-3 safe years out of it.

Funny how this came up right before my frame rust warranty was about to expire. Yet another situation in our day and age where the cure is worse than the problem itself, and maybe even purposefully.

You FAILED too take care of your truck by not coating the frame twice a year at least, you only had Toyota do it 1 time in the 10 years you have owned it,the rust was there long before Toyota coated the frame, your rusted frame is your fault since you live in the rust belt and didnt do anything to protect your frame..

Are you out of your mind? Toyota scheduled maintence says nothing about coating your frame. It isn’t something they expect you to do. Toyota and their inability to make frames that aren’t subverted by rust is to blame. You are a total, complete idiot who is a slave to Toyota.

So you think a person living in a rust belt state shouldnt have too worry or be concerned about rust ?
NOTHING lasts in the rust belt EXCEPT those vehicles where the owners take care of them,I dont care if its a Ford,Chevy,Nissan, etc they will all rust out if not taken care of.

All vehicles have this issue in rust belt. My biggest complaint with the post is blaming Toyota’s CRC for the damage.

Most people don’t know squat about there vehicles other than to wash the exterior and to add gas when the fuel gauge says so. The Op just discovered the rust when he was washing his garage floor, ended up on TW because of google. He was a new poster and we will never see him again. Rust on Tacoma’s!
