mine is/was much much much worse than that. it looks like you have surface rust...no rot.

I spent a few days with a pneumatic needle scaler, a wire brush, and some POR15 rust paint, and I have no reason to doubt my rust issues are done for a few years.

I'll probably have to do it again sometime, but that POR15 is good stuff.

will post some before and after pictures soon

TacoMX is right, my 98 went at that spot, but my 2002 went at the inside frame rail just infront (towards motor) or the rear crossmember. Have a look there, that's where the tech said most of them have been going, at least in that shop.

Oh, mine both just looked like bad surface rust. They are rusting from the inside out, so it's hard to tell just by looking at a frame from the outside.

the main point here is that there is no hole in his frame from a hammer...which it takes to fail.

if there is no hole, its surface rust, which can be slowed down successfully with proper prep and coatings

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    A 96 might have a 95 manufacture date.
You think that's bad? That looks damn good for a 15 year old truck. Only issue I see is in the first pic. Looks like you might have some perforation holes.

They would concern me if they were rust perforations.

So wait, does that mean my 2002 is possibly full of frame rust?

Yes. Isn't that the same as in the first pic you referred to?

Yes, but it's hard to tell if the holes are actually rust holes (except the two obvious stock holes)

Hey Babytruck, I see what you are saying but I just had my truck into the dealership and chatted with the shop manager that was in charge of the frame replacements. I asked if she had been getting people in after the closing date. She said yes and has had to turn people away. She said that sucks because those frame jobs were sweat jobs and they wish they had more to do.

Bottom line, they campained enough and had to put an expiry date on this deal otherwise it would go on forever. Also if people didn't bring their trucks in for the first test before this date Toyota Corporate wouldn't have the opportunity to get the rust proofing on these frames in time to get them past the 15yr extended warranty. Otherwise everyone would wait until just before the 15th year and all get frame replacements.

I do hope the o.p gets some sort of deal though.

Woops a bit behind. I would be concerned with those holes for sure.

Here's the hole in my frame after the hammer, there weren't any holes before the hammer hit it. Pretty bad looking surface rust though.

I definitely don't have anything like that in my frame i just searched from front to back and couldn't find anything!

rgr here's some more of the holes. They look pre-drilled and the other"holes aren't actually holes as they look its just the black paint chipping off.

I'm definitely going to do that! Where did you get the paint from?
