Frame Rust

Does Toyota have problem with frame rust on Tacoma 2010-2013?

I honestly dont know more lol. All i know is that Toyota has a problem with frames rustin/rotting since about forever. Fortunately, i dont live in a region where the roads are salted or anything like that. People will chime in when they wake up.

 

Mine has been OK. After six winters, there's less rust than my Subaru which is a year newer with half the miles.

The leaf packs are rusting noticeably more than the frame, which is probably why there's a recall on the leaf packs.

I haven't seen any 2010's with frame rust but that doesn't mean they aren't up next for a "limited service campaign." I've been waiting for a new frame to come in for 7 months for my 2006. Honestly the frame wasn't terrible I saw a hole bunch of 2nd gen's that were far worse off than my truck but they did find a spot where they could poke a hole in it so they failed the frame inspection. I was told the frame should be in this week I'm not holding my breath ...

 

Any vehicle that has lived in salt deserves a thorough inspection pre purchase. Tacoma or not.

From what I've seen around here it's not as common on those years, but they aren't very old either.

Assuming a buyer lives in salt country themselves, and an exam proved the frame was solid (and the rest of the vehicle passes muster) buy it, clean it up a bit and enter a fluid film preventative cycle.
