I had my 97 Tucoma extended cab 4x4 all original serviced last friday and my shop owner called me to the bay and said I have something you should see and get took care of asap. The frame on the right rear where the upper shock bracket attaches is rusted so badly it has broken all the way through. I looked at this forum and saw that I should contact my nearest Toyota dealer for direction on this problem. I have never received anything from Toyota on this problem. I have owned the truck for 12 years or so. What should I expect from Toyota. My truck is still in excellent condition for a work truck and need it back in full service. Anyone had an experience similar to this?

There was a frame replacement / truck buyback program that covered the frame for 15 years. For a '97 that coverage would have expired in 2012 anyway.

Just go to a collision shop and ask them to grind away the rusted area and weld in a reinforcement plate. Should be less than $500.
