Totally. I got permission from a friend to use his garage. Been researching ways to remove the cab. Definitely gonna make a frame swap post documenting everything because after talking to Toyota this seems like it will need to happen more and more as time goes on. They basically said any sort of recall is not going to happen since the extended warranty happened.

Good idea. I may need it if my frame rusts through after the warranty ends in August.

Are you also planning on replacing all the ancillary parts normally done during a dealer frame replacement? Lots of small stuff, and some bigger parts, according to previous posts. I had the frame on my old 2001 replaced, but all the paperwork went with it when I sold it to buy my 2003, and I don't recall everything they did.

Depending on the extent of the rust I would look at buying a whole parts truck for around $3k. You get a rust free frame and rust-free components to swap over. Like I said try Copart.com or Dashub.com

Not to long ago someone posted a picture of their repair invoice for a frame replacement. Its in the what have you done to your Tacoma section. About 2 weeks ago. Showed all the extras they needed like brake lines and fuel lines.

looks mostly like chassis related stuff. (control arms, lines, bushings, bolts, etc)

figured I would just take that as it happens. gonna plan on riding the motorcycle to work in the meantime since its warming up.
just gonna try to take my time enjoying the build and making something worth the effort. I plan on replacing shocks/struts/leafs most likely and doing a belt/pump replacement and looking into the statuses of the clutch, axles, and diffs as well.

From what I have read if you own a 01 - 04 that came from a select few northern states and if you got a frame coating done by Toyota before 2011 it extended your warranty another 15 years so if you have an 03 you have until the end of 2018 to get a new frame and 2019 if you have a 2004.

I really hope this is true because I have a 2004 from Illinois (one of the eligible northern states) that got a frame coating from Toyota in Illinois in 2010 that I have documented (before the 2011 cutting off) and it's pretty rusted up.

I am going to a dealer on Friday to see if I can get a new frame

Do you have a perforation anywhere in your frame? Good to get it checked out either way. Sometimes the frame can be paper thin, and when they test it they punch right through.

Best to see a dealer familiar with frame replacements though. Some are unfamiliar with the extended warranty.
