Haven’t done much the last mont or two. Life has been crazy. I’m still waiting on the paint shop to be ready for my bed, fender flares and grille. Meanwhile if been doing little things like painting bumpers, paint correction on cab and raising the exhaust up tight to the body.

Got the flares and bumper back on. Ready to put some miles on it! Still to do are new audio, front window tint and “TOYOTA” decal on the gate. 27 weeks working on this a little at a time.

@Loctite77 where did you get the splash guards from. Aren't you located in the Winston-Salem area, or Raleigh Durham. if so we should hook up one day for lunch. I'd really like too see this build up close and personal.

Ladies and Gentlemen who have been so kind as to have followed....thank you. I’ve been putting a few hundred miles of highway and city driving on Mabel, including a load of about 900 pounds in the bed. Last knight no the highway, the front left axle popped out of the hub. It took me 50 meters to stop and diagnose. I slid it back in by hand under the truck and drove home at under 45mph. Tonight I pop the wheel off and it looks perfectly secure? C-clip in place, photo attached. Kindly advise as to the best course of action. Axles and presumably clips are less than 10k miles old.

Dam, your one lucky dude. That could have been disastrous. Have no clue, but glad you made it home. If you figure out what caused this, please post it up. Doesn't look like it did any serious damage either, you must be living right. And by the way, your truck is looking good. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done. With the work you did on the frame, it should last a long time.

Thank you brother. Blessed for sure to be able to stop so rapidly. No apparent damage. It just doesn’t seem possible that it could slip out like that and then I was able to slide back in at that clip just happen to catch? No way?! What am I missing?

was on good old I-40 between Mocksville and Winston. I work in Mocksville BTW now, if that’s close for you, we should meet up for lunch one day after COVID.

@Loctite77, a couple of things 1) did you re-use the old snap ring as it is intended to be a replaceable part and 2) if you were able to remove your hub without first taking off the outer selector dial then you are missing a bolt that is installed on the end of the CV located inside the free wheel hub that keeps your exact issue from happening

To answer your quandary about the axle popping out then back in with the C-clip being installed, the hub will hold that C-clip in the general area somewhat centered when your axle popped out. When you re-installed your axle it simply snapped back into place.

I copied the page out of the FSM that shows the potentially missing bolt for your reference

Yes I did reuse the clip. My mistake for sure. When I took the axles out prior to frame swap, there were no bolts on the end of the axles. I see now in the exploded view that there should have been. I’ll get them ordered along with new clips. Thanks.

I have a 95.5 with manual hubs and here is the part diagram showing the number. I would think it would be the same.
