    CRC makes the least sense.

So for future reference.. do I or do I not bother with spraying my under body? Seems like we (2018+) will get this recall in the future

I'm punching myself for going with Ziebart undercoating. I'm on the fence of doing the yearly touch ups just for warranty sake. Really wonder if people like me or others who got their vehicle undercoated will be screwed out of the warranty... I have a 19 but I think it's only a matter of time before the 18, 19, and 20s will get a letter like this...

Btw I'd like to hear everyone's opinion on fluid filming OVER a rubber coating like CRC or Ziebart. Part of me wants to just continue with the ziebart for warranty sake but at the same time all the horror stories I'm thinking about fluid filming over it instead of getting it touched up every year

Rust belt of rust belts here (Atlantic Canada). Mountains of salt and now that brine concoction used on the roads in winter.

Fluid Film style rust inhibitors (like Rust Check), applied annually, are the only way to go if you plan on keeping your truck for the long run.

DO NOT, under any circumstances, apply any kind of coating that can plug drains or trap moisture. You're better off leaving it without any protection than doing that.

I use Mercedes cavity wax product on my frame. Its what is used at the factory for protection & works very good. I will not be getting the CRC treatment on my 16. I will be getting rid of truck before frame rust becomes a issue.

CRC isnt rubberized. Its a grease coating. It will work well as long as it is kept moist. Fluid filming over top of it is what I do to accomplish that.

Read post 27 in this thread for more of my opinion on the stuff.

My cousin has sprayed fluid film for almost 10 years at his business and they are now looking at Berkebile which seems to have less run off or dripping and without the smell.

I also saw the tech's applying that stuff to frames and I could have done a better job blindfolded. Missed spots everywhere, no prep - it was ridiculous.

don't bother covering, just wait for a 10mm hole to develop and get a new frame. all the new kids are getting frames.

Their doing it differently then how they did the early 2nd gens. You have to get CRC to get a new frame. Same for later 1st gens.

If you go to the dealer let me know what they say about it. I'm almost tempted to scrape everything off as much as I dont want to..

    None... yet.
You've got to decide for yourself, but personally I'm not letting my truck see a single brined/salted road without having Fluid Film or Woolwax applied. I might get CRC applied first then use FF/WW to keep it moist as Blue92 does above, but only if the dealer will apply it for a song. I don't have much faith in either the product or their ability to apply it, so I'm not willing to pay a great deal for it. I'm not concerned about being turned down for a future potential frame recall because I didn't proactively apply CRC... I'll just apply it if I ever get a letter like the above telling me I need to.

I dunno. This thread seems to have devolved into kind of obsessing about preventable worst-case scenarios. Yeah, frame rot sucks and yeah, I wish Toyota did a better job preventing it. But I bought this truck knowing full well the underbody needs a little more love than some--a tradeoff I was willing to accept because the engine and drivetrain will likely still be going strong long after contemporary trucks have been relegated to the scrapheap. Plus I've spent enough decades driving in the rust belt to know that if I want any vehicle to last around where I live, you need to take care of it. It's a few hours of preventative maintenance a year if you do it yourself, or $50-150 if you pay someone else to do it for you.

Or do nothing and roll the dice that it gets replaced by Toyota a few years from now. I'm not much of a gambler, but YMMV :notsure:

As a sidenote, on a lark, I reached out to Toyota corporate yesterday to see if they have any public stance or advice on third-party undersprays, and whether using such products affects the corrosion perforation warranty protection or any other warranties. I'll post any reply I get, but I'm honestly not expecting to hear anything, or if I do, I'm not expecting to hear anything helpful. No lawyer worth his or her salt would allow that question to be answered in any way other than "we decide these things on a case-by-case basis and the use of any non-toyota parts or products may result in warranty protections being voided." That's how I'd answer the question anyway... always gotta be covering dat ass, sadly. But whatever. FF/WW are lanolin based and barely last a year, and can more or less be powerwashed away if you need to remove it if you're that paranoid about the dealer negging you for something like that.

My luck it would happen in year 12 and since I didn't get the required crc coating at the dealer I would be SOL.
