I purchases a 2004 Tacoma roughly 8 months ago. At the time I was unaware of any frame/ rust issues. Recently I noticed rust above the rear leaf springs causing holes in the frame. The vehicle was sold in Maryland and I am the 2nd owner. It has been coated with the CRT. Will Toyota replace the frame if the CRT has been applied and rust is still an issue?? Please help

yes, take it into a Toyota dealer and have it inspected, how big are your holes?. I took mine in about a month after I bought it (Jan 2016) and finally got it approved (couple of months ago) to have a new frame swapped in. Still waiting on my frame to show up so I've been stock-piling parts. As long as Toyota is the one who applied the CRT you should be fine.

when you take it into a dealer don't ask about a frame "recall". Tell them you want the frame inspected and if they give you any shit about it call Toyota HQ. This is what I had to do. Toyota HQ will log it all down and then call a Toyota dealer of your choosing. HQ even went as far as calling the dealer for me to let them know that my truck was covered for frame rot. Dealer called me the same day and had me bring it in for inspection.

good luck man, hope its all covered and you get that new frame.

I called HQ about an hour ago and the department I had to be transferred to was closed. I have a case number and have to callback in the morning. I've been reading forums all day and have heard nothing but horror stories. I'm a little nervous

If Toyota hasn't already inspected it and warrantied it, then it won't qualify for a free replacement. The deadline for inspections was earlier this year. If it was inspected in the past, then it would have a 15 year warranty from that date. There's a Toyota website somewhere where you can enter you truck's VIN and see if it was inspected, I'm sure if you google it you'll find it. Good luck, hope it was inspected already

I was in the same boat man, I wouldn't sweat it. have you looked on Toyota owners dot com? you can plug in your VIN and see if the CRT was done by a Toyota dealer. If it was, you should be in the clear. They warranty the frame from the in-service date of the truck for 15 years if it was undercoated and yours being a 2004, it would be covered till sometime in 2018 to 2019 sometime. Carfax showed my being done at the dealer but don't remember if it showed on Toyotaowners.

I called Toyota hq for a claim this morning just waiting on a call back. I also stopped by 2 dealers and both said the warranty had expired. I check carfax and the Toyota recall website to see about the service for the crt and carfax shows recalls that were issued in the past but nothing related towards the frame. The frame is coated just not sure at this point if it was done by the dealer prior to me purchasing it.

I did the same, went to two different dealers and neither one of them knew what was going on. They both told me that the campaign was over with and I just couldn't accept that. That's when I called Toyota HQ, I got a case number and they called me back the same day and said that I was covered for the rot.

If you call it a recall, the dealers will look it up as a recall and there won't be anything. It was a service campaign that Toyota was running specifically for the 2001-2004 Tacomas. Prior first gens were on a buyback program and the second gens 05-08 I believe also had the campaign for frame swaps but that ended I believe earlier this year and that is what the dealers were telling me was over.

What eon_blue said about the program ending earlier this year is the first I've heard of that. Doesn't mean it isn't true since I started my frame swap questions to HQ back in Feb of this year.

Hope you get good news soon and keep us updated.
