Just curious if anyone has surmised the frame situation on the 4th gens yet? Do you still treat them as precious metal every fall??

So, all of us are gonna be the testers for this I recon. I'm still going to coat the outside with a cosmoline product to keep the frame looking good. I wash the underside of my trucks after every winter storm to flush out the brine they use Here now.

Curious if the 4th gens have a wax coating on the inner surface of the frame like the 3rd gens....even though they have a fully boxed frame?

The exterior coating appears to be better.

Nissan had shit exterior panels, but 2005 xterras here have black frames still. It's a sore spot for tacoma and they really need to fix it this go.

Know anybody with a 22+ Tundra? I'd like to see underneath of some 22s that have been in the region since new.

I talked to a Toyota engineer about this, he said Dana doesn’t make the frames anymore I forget the company he mentioned (I’m sure easily searchable online) he said he wasn’t a fan of the new company even though Dana sucked. With that said I would assume the frames are still just as rust prone if not worse since they’re full boxed now

Best bet is to assume that, if your area was bad for previous gens, it'll turn to swiss cheese if not treated. Treating it will never hurt it. Not treating it could cost you a truck in a few years, depending on your area. Why risk it?
