    Yeah.
"The way to learn whether a person is trustworthy is to trust him." - Ernest Hemingway

Sucks that it cost that much, but I think we've all trusted someone who turned out to be less than trustworthy. At least the guy didn't totally ghost you and fessed up.

True but he didn’t fess up to what he did with the money. Just sent me packing without any explanation.

Damn $76k? This luxury prerunner wasn't being built from a 4wd truck was it?

    Yeah.
Yeah, but he was pretty clear that he didn't have the money to give back to you. He didn't do what he was supposed to do with it and didn't see a way to recover from it. Hookers and blow, boats and hoes, Vegas, or just paying bills doesn't seem to matter at this point. People on that spiral usually stay on the spiral screwing more and more people over trying to climb out of the hole and then try to disappear. There have been a few interesting sagas like this on TW over the years. TW is highly responsible for my trust issues.

Reasoned and experienced perspective. Good on ya.

He described the build earlier in the thread.

Thank you for that - now I have a new response when my girl asks why I haven't yet proposed. "TacomaWorld. It's their fault."

    :D Cheers :)

Technically that might be true. "Sorry I haven't gotten you a ring yet babe. I spent a lot of money on mods for my truck this year. You can blame TW!" lol

You’re right he was clear that he didn’t have the money but what he should’ve done to make things right was continue building my truck at no cost to me. He’s still operating at his shop location so it doesn’t make sense as to why he made me move my truck out. Things I’ll probably never know.

Lawyer Up! Find a lawyer that you can make some type of mutual connection with (friend of a friend, old roomate, etc.) and see if you can pick their brain about it outside of billable hours. Good way to determine next steps without losing more money (yet).

This is the type of dilemma that Saul Goodman and Mike Erhmantraut could resolve in an afternoon

Edit: find you a lawyer who's also here on TW and he may take your case Pro Bono... ya never know

I'm somewhat curious, what were the plans for the prerunner? Was this going to be a fun dune toy, or an attention grabber for a business, or what?

Good luck, hope you get something recovered.

This is 100% why we haven't set a date yet. "I need to *finish* the truck before we have the wedding. I can't afford both in the same year!"

He has a point, the guys that would risk their life, don’t have $76k to hand over for a “truck”.
I guess if you got $76k to hand over for a “truck”. You probably have a few extra thousand to spend on a lawyer. I however, do not. So I wouldn’t be in OPs situation. So, I guess I should have kept my opinion out of it.

But I’m still not letting someone walk away with my $76k.
    I’m not……
