    Came across this today: https://www.colorado.aaa.com/catalytic

"AAA Colorado is partnering with the Colorado Department of Public Safety’s Auto Theft Prevention Authority and our AAA Approved Auto Repair shops to offer free catalytic converter theft prevention. A technician will apply a non-removable etched ID# to your catalytic converter and have it registered in the theft prevention database."

I'm going to call AAA today and ask more details about it. Anyone else do this already?

I'm really having a hard time thinking this will help at all.

Is a thief gonna check for #'s before the saw goes after the cat?

A thief is just gonna grind off the #'s before it's sold to a sketchy recycler.

Town I live in out here is offering this to residents, limited availability though as it's a local shop that's offering to do it for free. I don't hold out hope that it will change very much though. Most of the places that thieves are taking these stolen cats to won't give AF if its etched or not.
