Finally removed my receiver hitch, was looking at the bracket that holds the trailer wiring plug, and realizing it can be modded very easily.
In the following pics you will see how I was able to bend the mounting bracket to allow the trailer plug to be repositioned out of the way of off road obstacles.
With a simple 90 degree bend, and rotation of the bracket, you will no longer be exposing the electric plug to damage.

    1st pic is the bracket

2nd pic shows how it hangs down from the rec. hitch

3rd pic shows the mount after being bent in a vise, and re installed

4th pic shows the bracket from the side
    20160404_104324.jpg

5th pic shows the bracket after bending, yeah it'll need some rattle can!
    20160404_104446.jpg
6th pic shows the bracket from the side!

Very easy mod to perform, and could save you destroying your trailer electric plug!

Can you post a pic of the finished product mounted on the truck?

Just the bracket, or is the actual 7-pin plug destroyed too?

Check out e-trailer. They have lots of options.

True right at the cusp of that arc. Use a hammer to bend it or pliers of some sort?
