oh yeah i got just over 20.5 yesterday when i filled up (hunting season has started so i drive a half hour or so a week in the pastures and fields at ~5-10mph so not great for mpg). Ill prolly put the hose back on this week and see if they stay the same or go down or up.

So today I drove a 115 mile trip. Ambient air temp 58 degrees. With the intake hose removed my air intake temp was 78 degrees, driving with cruise control set at 68. cooper AT3s - 255/75r17 all at 36 PSI.

    24.5 MPG going out
    25.6 MPG returning

Damn. There maybe something to Warm Air Intake after all.

Prior to this, it was customary to see 16.0 MPG at engine shutoff.

I use a Garmin Nuvi 3597 with the OBDII Garmin EcoRoute that provides vehicle data to track my mileage.

Here are some screen shots from the Garmin.

This one tracks the last 50 driving hours and the Average includes time before removing the intake hose. You can clearly see the difference of before and after in the graph:

This is the gauge page I was monitoring today. This was at the end of the trip sitting still with the truck running for a few minutes when I stopped to get the mail.

This is the first driving segment report when I left this morning to my first destination:

This is going to be an interesting experiment.

Got 21.09 mpg on this tank. My buddy has an 08 4runner and he has dropped from 21 to 17-18. I hypothesize that i am basically maintaining summer mileage with these warmer ait.

This is very common in the diesel world... (Sorry if it was covered I didn't read haha) Hows it working on the gas engines?

Wow, two sets of positive results. My mileage has dropped from its summer level of ~21 to ~19; I may try this.

its been right around freezing in the mornings and its gets up into the 50's maybe 60's on a couple days. im still averaging about 25* above ambient for the hole ~35 min trip (like it is ambient for the first 5-10 mins then eventually climbs to about 40* above but i would guess that average is 25* over)

just did a little (quite a bit actually) bit of converting. brace urselves
at sea level at (0*C) 32* F ambient air has about 8.5 gr of O2 per cubic foot

if u increase the temp by 20* C (68*F) the mass of O2 drops to 7.9 gr (93.2%, and .54gr less/14.7=.037 gr of gas less)

there are 3785 ml in 1 gal (so the internet says, so if thats wrong , sorry canada) assuming that the density of gasoline in .7 that means there are 2650 gr of gas in 1 gal.

2650/.037gr=71621.6 so basically for every 71621.6 cubic feet of air that goes through my engine, i save 1 gallon of gas, when ait are 68* instead of 32*. also this is assuming its a constantly stiochiometric.

im tired of number crunching and googling so if someone else cares to post how many ft^3 of air our trucks consume under a givin rpm feel free

I ran 5 tanks with the hose completely out of my truck and averaged 20.1 mpg. I put the hose back in, two tanks and averaged 16.9.

I removed the hose again and will likely run this way until spring.

You do lose engine power but it's worth it in my opinion.

so i got 19.98 mpg on this tank this morning, but my sister borrowed my truck to move some appliances and a canoe and it was about 60 miles or so, so not only did it have about 300 ish extra pounds in it, my sister happens to be a woman and, therefore, most likely drop as one. i also went hunting 5-6 times on this tank so i had some really short trips in 1st gear the whole way. still not bad compared to what i hear everyone else is getting. Oh i also had to get gas at a different station on that last tank too so there were alot of variables .

so the formula for for cfm is CFM=CIDxRPMxVE/3456
242x1500 (average rpm i drive on my work commute)x .82 (aparently the volumetric efficientcy of most NA engines according to the google mobile)/3456 (i dunno where this number comes from but ive seen it like 10 times on carb selling sights and race forums and other junk like that) = a CFM of 86.

I also would like to go back to my 71621 and note that i run 10% ethonal so i need to take about 5% off of that for stiochiometric mixture and according to toque i run about 14.3 instead of 14.7 afrs, so a little rich. so im gonna adjust that to 65891 (8% less) this equates to a 1 gal savings every 766 minutes or about 12 hours and 45. so at 50 mph 638.5 miles or about 1/2 gal per tank.

this is also not taking my elevation into the equation but i assume that its a proportional decrease b/c of temp increase if elevation remains the same. and also assuming that everything is working out exactly right everytime.

this morning i had gone 304 miles on 15.2 gals and had i used 15.7 that would have netted 19.36 instead of 19.98. almost a 5% increase. these numbers are all hypothetical of course only trying to scientifically back up my findings

spending $35 a week on gas, a 5% savings would equal a $37.49 over a 5 month span of cold weather driving

Only way I know how to do it......I thought or think I am missing something due to the high tech pics of GPS distances and fuel consumption.... I under stand gps will tell you how far you went but how is the gps monitoring fuel usage? Or are you interning data and it's calculating data based on what you enter.

    Real question .. :)

Oh sorry, thats the torque app for android. It works with an obd2 port Bluetooth adaptor. I dont count it as dead on ( which it could be) but i mainly see how i can lower those instant numbers while driving.

There is a thread all about that app with alot of good info in it
