So I was deciding between the 2014 Tacoma and a brand new Nissan Frontier Pro-4X, and the brand new Nissan was much cheaper than the 2014 Tacoma.

After watching "How to Kill a Toyota Hilux" on Youtube, I thought Tacoma was the way to go. I know Tacoma ain't no Hilux, but the reputation of Tacoma has been well established, and many many people have told me it's an awesome truck that will last a long time.

Does anybody know much about the new Nissan Frontier Pro-4x? I just want to know what I missed out. It looks cooler and more agile than Tacoma with a 5' bed, but other than the appearance, I don't know much about its history.

    Please enlighten me.

    Thanks.

Go to the Nissan forum - probably more familiar with Nissan trucks over there

    Working on it.
It's a nice truck. It is no Ridgeline though.

If you're into modding the truck, there isn't a lot ofl aftermarket support for the Nissan. They simply don't sell that many trucks.

Taco makes a good point. I would research on here the Tacoma and go to the Nissan forum and see what those guys say. Just because something is cheaper doesn't always mean that's the way to go. Buy once, cry once...and all that jazz

I'm going to go out on a limb and say most of us here would recommend you pick the Tacoma.

Nissan makes a fine truck. But, look at resale value. They don't come close to Tacoma for holding their value.

The kill a hilux video is stupid. Any vehicle could have made it through what they did.

You wanna see a kill a Tacoma video that would impress? Let's see a Tacoma frame survive 5 years in a salt road state. That would impress me.

I'm at 4 years and 67k miles in a heavily salted state. Very little rust on the frame. I'm sure I'll make it past 5 years.

My truck looks like this or worse through most of the snowy parts of the winter.

    Good for you.

I'm sure you are not oblivious to the long and storied history tacoma has with frame rot issues right? Toyota to this day is swapping 2nd gen frames for rot issues...

    Toyota reliability is bs

I have ~179k on my '08, used to commute daily from CT to Boston daily in the winter. Only have surface rust on the frame, but it's since been undercoated. Most people around here don't spray the salt off the undercarriage when it gets warm out.

Having driven a rental Frontier for a week, I can tell you the seating position is worse. The seat is too high. Seat cushion doesn't offer good support. Brake pedal is too close to the driver compared to the gas pedal. The straight-pull shifter is more difficult to use than the Tacoma's gated shifter if you want to shift manually. These ergonomic shortcomings become severely irritating after a while. In double cab models, the rear seats have less room in the Frontier.

And Nissan's rust protection is worse than Toyota's. However, Nissan isn't as generous with publicized buybacks and frame replacement campaigns, so people don't hear the problems.
So @TTsai should be looking at 2014 Frontiers? :D

I struggled with the same decision myself. A 2nd Gen Tacoma or the Frontier Pro 4X. What turned me off a bit about the Frontier was the turning radius. One of my coworkers mentioned it was poor and looked it up myself. It's close to a Tundra, which it not great for a mid-size. But, depends on what and where to plan to use the truck for.

I've truthfully heard that the IFS geometry on the frontier/xterra is pretty bad. The Toyota IFS isn't great either, but it's better than Nissan's from what I've heard. Also, the Pro4X (in my opinion) is more of a competitor for the Tacoma TRDOR than the Tacoma TRD PRO.
