It happened over in 2nd Gen too but he drove down the road a little way before noticing the light and engine was toast.

I wonder if you could go in for the free service and just ask for the oil and oil filter...

Camelback is usually decent... they come recommended on TW as a good resource for cheap parts online.

They put oil in and asked him to drive but it was ruined. I recall the Dealer buying an engine from a salvage yard with less miles as the resolution.

I don't go to the dealer that's closet to me either. The left my oil cap off after an oil change. Got a call after I got home about some need for warranty information on issue I had with a rear differential bolt coming loose and it leaking. I told them no I wasn't coming back. I was told to hold on and after a few minutes the tech came back and informed that I may not have an oil cap and asked if I could come back. I said flatly no, I think you can drive to me and put it on. I really don't want to drive it if it'sis sing a part. They came and put it on. Same dealer kept my truck for 3 days for that loose bolt. First I was told they didn't have fluid and needed to order it. Next day was they forgot they needed a gasket and had it ordered. Since I have been thrown out of this dealership because I told some guy who asked for my opinion to go somewhere else after they told him it was going to be 2500 dollar for new strutsite on his car.

Theoretically possible in cars with dry-sump lubrication, where the oil pan is flat and the oil is kept in a tank away from the engine (this to lower the engine CG a couple of inches). Of course, the only Toyota with dry-sump was the Lexus LFA.
Parts dept operations can be night-and-day compared to service dept operations. All the parts dept has to do to stand out from the competition is mark up the parts by 30% instead of 40% like other dealers. ;) (Still nothing compared to the 300% markup Toyota puts on parts selling them to dealers.)

You should change the title to after anyone services your vehicles not just Toyota.

Everyone has these $10hr guys taking on more responsibility than they can/should be!

Thats for a LOF (lube, oil, filter) which actually pays 3 tenths (6 minutes) of an hour now. Gets worse and worse every year. Hard to make money in this business now.

How bout the oil, could be they were "going" to change the oil the 1st guy was waiting for the 2nd guy to change it and .... well nothing. Are you sure they changed the oil?

I could see that happening... happened to me... pulled in the driveway to change my oil and my wife totally forgot to change it. She's now chained to the stove awaiting my menu.

Went to pull off the air dam on my truck the other day and noticed the front bolts holding the skid on were loose.
