Grenade will likely happen. Looks like I'm just going to have to drill and tap one myself though as nobody sells on that's M14x1.5 which is what the shifter is.

    No cutting on this one.

These are the wheels I ordered:

Ended up going with KM2s in a 235/70/16. Got them mounted and balanced this morning. I only had to trim about a half in of the bottom corner in front of the front wheels. I'm really surprised, as I expected far more rubbing. The lift should go on next week.

Hey now! I resemble that remark!

May or may not still have some Scouting t-shirts that fit...
    Unsub for bro tars.

Resub because I really love the look and vibe of the drab green/black combo. Feels very militaristic!
    Way cool, Dave. Waaaay cool.

I feel like if you mount a steering wheel and seat in the back facing the rear window you could convince people that it drives from either end. It's almost symmetrical. Like driving the Weiner Mobile. Haha

Awesome project, looks tough. You are off to great start. I’m always lurking around craigslist looking at Vanagons. They are really cool adventure mobiles. Sub’d.

If you feel like making the drive, @Dave41079, my barber is a huge VW fan and has a wealth of knowledge. (I have no idea what the hell he's saying most times)

I mentioned your build to him and he was pretty pumped to see it come to life. Next time I get my ears lowered, I'll show him pics on here.

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, looks you crooked in the eye, and asks you if you paid your dues; you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have you paid your dues, Jack? Yes sir, the check is in the mail."

I'm not saying I've been everywhere and I've done everything. But I do know this is a pretty amazing planet we live on here. And a man would have to be some kind of fool to think we're all alone in this universe.

I owned a Vanagon, bought it brand new. Mine was a 82 I think it was. Air cooled flat four 2.0L. It was a great van, miss it greatly. It would not pull our boat though so we sold it and bought a Ford Econoline. I also owned, in college, a 1972 VW Bus with a 1500cc flat four (twin Mikuni carbs, dual exhaust). The Vanagon would get up and go in comparison and the air conditioner mostly worked but never did on the Bus but for a few minutes before it drug it down to 45 MPH and then threw the belt. Top speed was about 69 MPH, after all it was a dual carb and dual exhaust, otherwise it was 59 MPH.
