On my 2005 TRD Offroad Prerunner, i have 265/70/16 Cooper Discover HTP, a street tire. I'm looking to get an A/T or M/T, but they are a pretty penny. I drive on the street most of the time, which brings me to a delima. I know that a 265 off-road tire would be great for off-roading, but since i rarely do, i'm wondering if a 245 will suffice? Or even increase gas mileage since i daily drive my truck.

I'm also looking a Treadwright Guard Dog or Warren. Both come in 245/75/16 with an (E) rating, if that makes any difference in ride quality or performance.

Anything you gain by going from a 265/70 to a 245/75 will likely be lost by going from a P-rated tire to an E-rated tire. Plus, those treadwrights are heavy tires to begin with because they're retreads. Additionally, the ride will suffer a bit because the tires are significantly stiffer.

The jump from 265 to 245 is fine, and will help with your MPGs if you stay with a similar tread pattern and load range.

That's a small tire, so it might look a little silly, but it will definitely improve your gas mileage.

As for offroading, you're not going to be doing anything too crazy in a prerunner anyway, so you're not losing much capability there with a smaller tire.

mine came with 245 dunlops and i went to 265's then to 285's, you'll gain some mpg and probably wont notice much else performance or ride wise
