If gas mileage and power are concerns (and they should be) I wouldn't change the height of the tires more than an inch unless you are also going to regear on a 4 cyl truck. I've had a bunch of older toyotas over the years with 33-38" tires on them that were 22re trucks that all went down the road fine and got over 20mpg on the highway. It's all in the gearing. I actually had one 91 reg cab with 4.88's 33's and a header that got 25mpg. I miss that truck.

I probably will go with 245/70/16. from 27" to 29.5" in diameter. Regear sounds like changing gears in transmission; i have to drive the truck for a while and the differences. I already removed the secondary charcoal air filter and installed AEF pro dry. How much did the regear cost you ?

Regearing involves replacing the gears in the rear differential. The gears only cost $200-300, but if you don't know how to do the work yourself, you can easily double that price to include labor.

I took this picture today; after the wheels and tires installation and alignment. 245/75/16 tire. Fat Bob Garage leveling kit. Tires rub the fender plastic a little bit, i need to do some shaving of plastic soon. Some loss of power. I like the way it looks. I will know more how it drives after i shave some plastic and drive for a while. With the stock tires, my speedometer was 4mph too fast (at 65mph). With the new bigger tires, it's reversed, it's now probably about 4mph too slow (at 40mph). I appreciate for all the input i received on this forum. I plan to find a machine sander to shave plastic ..

I'm running 265/70-16 (31.6")with no issues but I also have 4.10s. Sure it lacks power but at the end of the day its a 4 banger that still gets over 20 mpg has a bed and will last forever.

the flares are by Bushwacker ... they make several kinds, this one is called pocket style. sometimes you can find them for under $400 at autoanything.com. They came in black.

your truck looks good with 265/70/16. no rubbing at all ? That size is almost identical to 245/75/16. Both is about 30.5 inch in diameter. Your tacoma is a prerunner ?

the fender flares i got on the truck is for a tacoma base model accesscab; your truck already has a flare; you should check http://www.bushwacker.com/ and see if they make one for your truck. I would just call them and get the part number and order from ebay or autoanything.com.

I just went back to the tire store and change the tires to 245/70/16. It definitely feel more powerful, no rubbing, still looks good. Even tho it's one inch smaller. I think 245/75/16 is too big for this 4 cylinder truck.
