Mine as well as my buddy's 4runner studs are a bit short with aftermarket wheels. Must be the design of the lug nuts being able to grab more thread as stock? I didn't have any problems, but they're definitely a little short.

Funny, I was just searching the forums about the short stud issue. My rear drums were squealing so I took them apart to lube everything up. That's when I noticed my studs seem short. I've been running them like that for 1 year without problems but they definitely are short. I've had the wheels and tires installed and the tire guy didn't mention it. I've also had my oil changed and tires rotated 3 times at the dealership and they haven't mentioned it either. If I had to guess, I'm only getting 1/4 to 3/8 inch of thread in my lugs. Maybe I need to put longer studs in mine as well.

You could have used extended lug nuts instead of replacing the lugs.

Lots of guys apparently aren't using extended lug nuts, but my '10 definitely needed them. I only had about 1/4" of thread engagement with regular spline drive nuts. Only about 1/2 the recommended engagement.

I contacted the OP and he recommended I have at least 7 turns of the lug. I checked mine out today and I have 11. So I guess I will be fine. I may order some extended lug nuts though

Rule of thumb is to have thread engagement at least equivalent to the diameter of the lug. So, 7 FULL turns (not half turns) at 1.5mm per turn would get you about 10.5mm of engagement. That's pretty close to the 12mm lug diameter. 11 FULL turns would be plenty. I bought non-extended lug nuts initially and they worked, but I only got a couple turns before bottoming out. It seemed dangerous to me, so I did some research and it turns out it was definitely less than ideal.

Scares me to think about all the people that are installing these with non-extended lug nuts and thinking it's ok. Extended lugs might cost a few bucks more than non-extended, but it's cheap insurance doing the job right. And they look the same when installed, since the extension goes down into the wheel, so I'm not sure why anyone would want to run non-extended lugs, at least in the second gen trucks. I have no experience with third gen.

Without having to go through 30+ pages, I just want to know what width and offset to get to not rub on stock suspension with mudflaps for 17" on these wheels and what tire size would fit and not rub?

265/70R17 is the largest tire you can fit with a 17 inch rim on stock suspension.
4.5 inch backspace is the general go to for most people, gives the truck a nice stance. 4.11 will rub on the mud flaps (found that out for myself).
Stock rims are around 5.5 inch back space I believe with a 7.5 inch wide rim.
Most aftermarket are either an 8 or 9 inch wide rim.
So you either want an 8 inch wide 0 offset or a 9 inch wide -12 offset to get the 4.5 inch backspace. I believe those are the right specs. Google wheel backspace calculator and something should come up just to make sure.
There's different size combos 255/75R17 for example that may work. But rule of thumb nothing over a 32 inch tire on stock suspension

A lot depends on what kind of tire you get too. If you get an aggressive one with really deep tread, you'll rub. I had the size stated above (265/70r17) on stock suspension and I had to remove the front mud flaps. That was with 8" wide 0mm offset, which is 4.5 backspacing. They stick out 1.5" more than stock.

Too bad they wouldn't give a set to people who already have the wheels

Yeah he said that instead of buying the original ones you can buy the extended ones. They are like $ 3.00 ea.

I put in an order over the weekend for a set of these in bronze, hopefully they'll get to me by the end of the week. Now to find some different center caps since i'm not a fan of the big white "8".

Soak a rag in acetone and lightly wipe off the 8. If you have to you can always plastidip the cap a color matched bronze and then get some TRD stickers.
