Yeah but domestic reliability is really bad. Unless you figure 75-100k miles max reliability range is acceptable. I'd take the Tundra over any domestic simply cause I've been burned before with these rating companies giving high marks for a piece of shit.

I just picked up my truck tonight and this is my dream truck. I would take it ANY DAY over the Denali. I know you are being sarcastic, but this 2022 F250 platinum is pretty damn nice inside. I can see myself in this for the next decade. Every bit of regret I had, thoughts of money I spent trying to love the Tacoma is gone... all gone.

This ford in that pic towing my tacoma has well over 200k miles on it :) No major repairs ever done.... he has only owned F250s for the last 2 decades. He upgrades usually around 250k+ miles.... but, I get your point. Diesels are a different animal and typically last longer that gas engines though.

I loved the looks of the Tacoma (along with the aftermarket options) and I'm happy to have been able to mod it myself and at least get that out of my system. In the end, it just wasn't for me...mainly cause I like the space and ride comfort of the larger trucks. I'm glad I got to experience it and glad to have found such a great community in the process.

Btw, I got 35k for the Tacoma in the end... one dealer offered me 38k, but they they were so damn unresponsive I gave up on them (Laura GMC.) I took a *****, as someone stated earlier, but in the end, I'm very happy with where I ended up.

I get it! Just an FYI though... on my way back from the dealer to my buddies house, on flat ground, I got 23 MPG over 60 miles.... doing 65.

Congratulations on your new truck OP. Life is too short to agonize over a vehicle you’ve not happy with. I know 1st world problems. However, It sounds like you can financially do this.

Tacomas are not for everyone. They are a fantastic looking truck and hugely popular. The most popular Tacoma yet. Unfortunately, there is an element of hype via social media and I think some people end up with unrealistic expectations. Unfortunately, you went the extra mile with mods and ended up regretting it.

Oh well, move on and don’t look back.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Tacomas are great when you are young or as an around town vehicle when you are older but only if you have a full-size sitting at home. I went back to a full-size years ago and it just flat out does everything better. Everything I do anyway.

Thank you, and I will certainly not look back! But,I think its worth stating that while I will survive this financially, it most definitely had an impact. I went from being way ahead on my vehicles (from a long stretch of being upside down,) to being nearly upside down on this, and if I count the 12k in mods, most DEFINITELY upside down. I learned a valuable lesson. I'm happy where I ended up, but it will affect my future spending and for the next few years and I'll be playing a little catch up..... only difference is, I'll be smiling every time I get on the road while I do :)

Again, yes, unfortunately some people get sucked into the Tacoma hype. Many reasons for this.

I do have to say that for my income level and real world needs along with a huge dash of sentiment from my first Toyota Truck, my Tacoma meets all my needs. Love looking at it and driving it. Works for my family of 4.

    My 2020.

    My 1992. So many memories!

Again this truck is not for everyone.

The worst is when folks purchase this truck and then find it doesn’t meet their needs or expectations and bitch and moan here.

Again, You did the right thing.:cheers:

Ever since I sat in an SR5 Tundra when I was waiting for my Sport delivery did I ever think I'd be disappointed with my Tacoma.

Probably because I NEVER experienced a Full-Size truck as an owner and had nothing but midsize SUVs with 3.5L engines.

The Tacoma had everything I need and that's the point before buying any vehicle.

Evaluate your needs and then make a decision to purchase.

Don't ever buy anything and then regret your decision.

That makes the owner look like they didn't do their homework.

Especially, if they post negative comments on any platform regarding their decision.

Love that little camper :) No doubt I bitched and moaned a little... but if you compare this thread to the multitudes of others on the internet, it's been a shining example of civility and community. I'm glad I posted it, and glad for the responses it received!

Just to clarify, I did not see your concerns as complaining. There is a certain troll element on here that seem to make a career out of bitching and moaning about their decisions in life. Specifically about Tacomas.

I appreciate that you tried to justify your mistake with all of us enthusiasts as one last attempt to seek understanding as to why theses trucks are so popular. You though you were maybe missing something. Majority of us said to move on and you took our advice. You realized that you made an error and put to rest that it wasn’t you but a truck that didn’t meet your needs or expectations. Now if you kept the truck and came on here everyday bitching and moaning then different story. I respect what you did.

    Sorry, again first world problems.

My very first truck was 1991 Toyota pickup. I Loved that truck, but since, I went from a couple more midsize to full size for a decade or so... then, got the overlanding bug, and well, the beginning of the thread explains the rest. I hope I wasn't negative about the Tacoma.... if so, that was not my intention. I get that its a beloved truck and I respect that and those who feel that way about it. Again, I liked the truck (and i was proud of the work i put into it), but only in terms of looking at it. I just didn't like driving it (on the road), but thats only me, and not a jab at the Tacoma.

I got to drive one of the new f350 diesel with the 10 speed auto for a day. Talk about a power house! I enjoyed driving it. Id love to daily one but would still have to keep a mid size truck on hand.
Only downside anymore to those big full size, is the price!

The new Tundra is a complete shit show, unless you mean an older Tundra.

Purchasing a Tacoma is a no brainer. If you don't like it you can always get most if not all your money back after a one year test drive. Not many others can say that.

This was the only reason I bought a new one, the used ones off a lease were only a couple thousand cheaper! Best resell value I've ever seen.

You didn't sound like you were negative about the Tacoma...it just doesn't fit your needs.

I guess because I never really owned a new truck and this was a purchase for me (meaning it wasn't for the kids or my wife) that I had excitement written all over my face.

People can talk all they want about their Tacomas in a negative light...I don't let it interfere with my ownership experience.

If you don't get that feeling of excitement as you approach/open the door and get into the seat, by all means, get something that does.

If you haven't taken it off road, why the heck is it covered in all that gear.
