From sports car to Tacoma?

Just wondering if anyone has gone from a sports car to a Tacoma. And how drastic the change was.

little background, my last few cars have been Mustangs and Challengers with 480+hp but looking to trade in for a midsize truck. But still want something at least sporty to drive.

was looking at a Ranger Raptor or Tacoma Limited with AVS

would anyone consider the Tacoma Limited with AVS a sporty drive?

 

Own a Miata and a Taco.

And Challangers and Mustangs are NOT sports cars.

 

Miatas are the cutest things since the VW Rabbit Cabriolet.

It’s nice of your husband to let you drive his Tacoma though.

 

would definitely agree with the Challenger it’s a muscle car through and through , but the Mustang with MagnaRide suspension can definitely handle like a sports car

 

About to trade in my 23 Civic Type R for a 24 Tacoma trd offroad iforcemax. I had a tacoma previously and just miss having a truck. I find having a truck and a motorcycle scratches the itch much better than a car and truck.

 

I did 15 years of manual zippy VWs before switching to a 18 manual Tacoma. It's slow but engaging, fun enough to drive on the road and does a lot more fun stuff off. The 4th gen should be more fun. Low end torque + stick = fun

 

The T.S.S. technology of the '24 Tacoma is way more thrilling than the drive, to me. Occasionally I will floor it and get a small chuckle (auto). Parking and navigating normal parking lots is tedious sometimes.
Makes me want the Hybrid, but the difference probably isn't crazy. If the JB4 tune chip thingy comes out and can really add 50-60 hp.... it would be more fun, I bet.

Not good enough that I could let go of my GR86.... yet.

A muscle car, a light roadster, and a Tacoma are all completely different animals. Give up the dream now of a "sporty truck." That is delusion. There is only "Sporty, for a truck, relatively speaking." And if you want off-the-line grunt, Raptor. Not Tacoma.

 

Sporty for a truck is what I’m looking for. Just nothing like my wife’s 2017 RAV4 Hybrid, it’s painfully slow and so much body roll.

Not trying to light up the drag strip, but any hope of Toyota releasing a performance package similar to the Tundra?

 

I've had vettes most of my life. I've been driving
tacomas for 20 plus years. Sports cars are simply
a different platform and no honest comparison
can be made. However, with that said, I can always
find a kid in a pickup 2 feet off the rear bumper of my
vette.

 

First big switch was from a Mazda RX-8 into 2nd Gen 4 banger Tacoma. Those were drastically different haha.

Then BMW, then Jeep Wrangler. Now 4g AT non hybrid. These trucks have decent acceleration feel for what they are, I personally like the engine/turbo sound while driving. The handling and body feel will probably be the biggest difference.

 

Miata's are cute right until you try to follow one thru a tight curve and realize you just ran out of road.

And I'd much rather have a car that woman LOVE then one guys love, unless you are into, well, you know, that kind of stuff.

You have NEVER seen a woman truly turn purple until some gal comes up to you and starts talking to you with another woman in the passenger seat.

 

Modern Mustangs are 100% sports cars

 

OP have you driven the 4th gen? It is fairly athletic feeling for a pickup, honestly worlds different from gens 1-3. It handles very nicely, but chuck it too hard into a corner and you'll get a lot of body roll. Your limit is a lot lower when driving it, but it is sharp as long as you aren't hooning too much.

I'd consider my WRX to be sporty, and the Tacoma I rented is definitely a fun truck to drive. The power delivery of both are similar, with the Tacoma having a good helping more of that low-end turbo torque.

I am waiting for the next 4Runner so I can compare them.

 

Sounds like you gals get together to talk about your Miatas all the time. That's great.

 

2000 pound cars are way more fun to drive then 4000+ pound pigs on the road. Notice I said DRIVE, not yacht a wallowing truck.

Try it one day, you may find tight curves that tighten even more 1/2 way round are fun.

And if that makes me a lesbian..........well, I do like OEM females.

 

Some mods are ok.

 

Supposedly vettes and 911s have better skid numbers than the Miata. However, the other day a Vette took a right hander with his tires squalling loudly, and I was on his six without any noise or complaint. That said, it's hilarious to drop a gear and hit the gas around a corner, completely contrary to your brain screaming to hit the brake.


And yeah, the girl thing is weird. I get approached by more girls than guys wanting to talk about the car, and bizarrely, more teenagers/twenty-ers than adults. Also, I parked next to a car show at the brewery recently, and laughed my ass off when I grab my beer and walk back outside to see that foot traffic had redirected to incorporate mine into the show. Dude. It's a used Miata. And yet... I've never had a car that's gotten head turns like it has.


That said, I'll be in the car for a month and then fire up the Tacoma for a weekend. And it's like, wow this is nice. It's quiet enough to hold a conversation, Im able to stretch my elbows, and I don't have to look upwards to see what color the curb is painted. Luxury.
