    except that the Tacoma is not a hilux.. not built to the same durability spec.

    Exactly! I love driving my brand new '10 Tacoma, but I honestly can't keep my eyes off the first gens: the styling and size is what I would have preferred but I wanted brand new.

    All the added accessories of newer autos (electronic this and that, traction controls, sensors, creature comforts, etc.) just adds a layer of complexity that almost guarantees nagging issues.

    Maybe this will prompt Toyota to design/build a bullet-proof, smaller truck? I hope so!

    That's a pretty good list that Top Gear wrote. I'd personally add the 72/73 Datsun 240Z.
