I just replaced my front ADD. After reading the forums here I became a member hoping for some help. To engage 4wd, I have to turn the truck off, push 4wd button, engage shifter to 4low, and start the truck. 4low will engage front ADD (old one and new one). Move the shifter to 4hi, it will engage 4hi. Push the 4wd button to disengage, it will disengage both actuators back to 2hi. Push 4wd button to 4hi, transfer case actuator works every time, nothing happens at front ADD. Shut the truck off, repeat the 1st process, back into 4lo, etc. Before I buy something else, I would like to solve the problem. The original ADD was fine. I just didn't know how to test it until coming here. Any direction would be appreciated. Thanks

Do you have experience using the 4x4? Sometimes the truck has to roll a little bit to engage and disengage. If you’re familiar with that I’d start looking at electrical/grounds and check the Fluids in both. Maybe test voltage at actuator. Good luck welcome to TW.

I've owned the truck since Nov. of 2003. Rolling fwd or rev, drive or neutral, no change. Going into 4low with the truck running in neutral, then to drive or rev, no change. It has to be the sequence I wrote about. I checked the voltage from the cable and it was 10.3v. I ran the front ADD with a 12v battery, reversing polarity and it works in both directions, returning it to an "agreeable " position, still nothing. Is there a way to test the 4wd computer? Fuses are all good too

Time to get the Toyota Electrical Wiring Diagrams for your year Tacoma.

Some one might post a copy

Anything electrical can be tested If I had those schematics I would talk you through the trouble shooting .

If I was close I would be glad to help.
