Front Air Dam on an Off Road

I just picked up my front air dam I got from another member and I'm finding that the OR wasn't meant for this thing?

There's a recovery point on the passenger side on the frame that seems to interfere with the valance from sitting properly. Also he gave me the hardware and they just seem like wood screws with a hex head is that right? There's no where under the front of my truck that those would go into to even hold the chin in place if it did fit.

Is this why the ORs don't come with them from the factory? Anyone with an OR put one on?

I'm mainly doing road driving when I do drive and I'd like to see what MPG difference these do if any.

 

The off road doesn’t have it because it hangs down and screws up the approach angle. Some people have said that it will gain 1-2 mpg with it on.

 

From another thread it's mentioned the approach angle is dropped from a 31 to a 29. Doesn't seem that significant to not even have the option to have one.

 

The air dam would just get in the way of recovery, hill/rock climbs, etc. How often do you go offroad?

 

2 degrees is pretty significant.

 

Mainly road driving when I do drive it.

 

Personally I think that thing makes the trucks look stupid but thats my opinion. Cut the valance around the tow hook or take the hook out

 

Mind if I ask you why you got the OR over the sport?
The air dam would only give you a couple of more MPG, but it won't really be as much as what a stock sport would give you compared to stock OR.

It is pretty significant, however; in OP's case, he doesn't need/comes close to maxing out the approach angle.

 

I too have wondered why people get the off-road over the sport, if they aren't going to off-road. The Sport seems to get noticeably better mileage (from what I've non scientifically gathered from MPG threads on here), and I think they look better with the scoop and sans the plastic trim and chrome rear bumper (but that's obviously totally subjective).

 

Because offroad.

The sport and Offroad are literally built for two different driving environment, but when people see "TRD OFFROAD" on the side of the bed, it probably drops panties! haha Jk.

Salesman at dealerships don't help either since their overall sale will be inflated with when people gets the more expensive OR for what; crawl control (most won't use), suspension (most won't use, and those that uses the OR suspension to what they are meant for, just replaces em), and the black fender trims (gotta have that cool factor).

 

Well since this forum is for being totally honest here it goes:

I got the offroad and I have never been off-roading before. But I wanted it for the ability to eventually go off-roading. I love the pictures of what people are able to do and I want to try it also. BUT, this is my brand new truck and I want to wait a bit before the newness wears off. Also, I agree that I think the Sport looks better with the scoop but it wasn't enough to persuade me that I should not get the off road trim to have the ability some day to go off-roading.

I know sounds dumb but it is the honest truth.

 

The Sport and OR are exactly the same price so the Salesman and Dealership are making the same on either one.

 

I picked the Off Road for its features from factory, suspension, locker, no faux scoop, and terrain select.

I dont have the option to go Off Road every day I'm off and I like knowing when the time comes I'll be able to go.

 

Can anyone show the bolts themselves that hold the thing on?

Even if I take off the recovery point I still don't have a way to attach this thing. Kinda disappointed as I was looking forward to seeing if this even make a difference.

Thank you the guy I got it from must not have the included the nut part of the bolt.

 

No problem , note there are about 4 more bolts that already have some nuts installed on your OR from the factory. You will see where the others go , it is where the holes are.

 

Where might those be at?

 

Interesting, the 2016 and 2017 the Sport was cheaper.
