Front brake rotors

Looking to upgrade front rotors and would like to know some opinions you guys have on the front brakes. Was coming down a mountain over the weekend and had some serious smoke from the rotors wanting to know what best options would be without upgrading to a big brake kit

 

If it were my truck, I would replace with OEM rotors.

 

GX460 calipers and rotors up front, with or without a tundra master would make a big difference and you could even throw on a tundra brake booster. Otherwise, just add some vented rotors.

 

Fresh Toyota blanks and stainless brake lines will do wonders for your truck...

Not saying better rotors aren't a good idea, but if you're rotors are smoking coming down a steep grade you're probably braking more than you should be...use the transmission and select the right gears to keep from using your brakes too much, it'll save you $$ in having to replace your brakes too often and it's also safer in general. No one wants to have to use the runaway semi truck ramp, although I have always wanted to see that.

 

The rotors aren't the reason the brakes were smoking, you were likely riding the brake pedal too much.

Make sure the rear drums are adjusted correctly so they're doing their share of the work. Check the pad wear side to side and make sure you don't have a sticking caliper

Engine braking helps also on long descents

 

agreed. Zero reason your brakes should be smoking regardless of the grade. I’ve towed a trailer down some wicked grades and the truck didn’t even flinch.

I used the PowerStop rotors and pads to replace mines. I had shaking on deceleration so this fixed it. As others mentioned, I don't think upgrading to any brake will stop the smoking of the brakes.
