I have a 2018 TRD Off Road, on the rare times I've had to stop in an emergency, the front wheels lock up and slide. Has anyone else had this happen?

I'm new to Toyota, but not new to trucks, and have not had brakes lock up in over 20 years, so this is a bit frustrating. Yesterday in a parking lot, I had to brake quickly at fairly low speed only to have the brakes lock up and the front wheels slide, quite disconcerting.

Sounds like an ABS problem but since you are under warranty take it to the dealer and make them figure it out.

    So no ABS?

If you can easily repeat the action, time to exercise your warranty.

I am taking it to the dealer, just wondering if this is a known issue.

I don't recall reading about what you describe here. Of course that doesn't mean it's not known to Toyota.

It only means that either very few have written about it here and I missed it, or its just not been an issue for this small slice of the Tacoma pie.

There have been other complaints about ABS, but they usually related to snow, ice, or folks that don't really understand what ABS does

Your description reads 'non working' to me. Actually I'm a bit surprised you don't have a warning light on.

Be sure to share the results. For the good of the order and all that.

I had a sticky caliper on my ranger where I would tap the brakes and they would instantly lock up. changed the caliper and never had the issue again.

Dealership could find nothing wrong, but they did not look for anything other than a code. That did do the transmission software update, that did improve the transmission.

Too bad you couldn't get it on the road with them and replicate. Codes are great, but they aren't the end all either.

    Good for you!

Just wanted to say I just experienced this. Scary!! Been driving for 17 years and NEVER had this happen. Had to hard break for some asshole coming at me from the side. The break stuck and didn't release until 1-1.5 seconds after I let my foot off.

I've been driving for over thirty years and haven't had this happen since I got my first decent vehicle after high school. This is my 14th or so vehicle, a big part of why I switched to Toyota was my dissatisfaction with how the American brands have treated me when it comes time to repair something under warranty. My brakes locking up is not a trivial issue, yet I'm being treated just like Ford treated me in the past.

I very much like the truck, and find it to be of better quality than anything I've owned before, but am disappointed that the dealership experience is just as slimy.

I recently took the truck in for its 10K service, and told the service writer it was starting slow. I got the spiel about it being normal. Within ten days I was stranded on the weekend with a dead battery. Battery had a bad cell, dealership replaced it under warranty, but they should have checked it when I complained about it, not after AAA had to jump start it, and I came in with their battery test to show the service writer.

Overall I love the truck, but I thought I'd get a better ownership experience, the dealers are just as big a let down as the American brands I've owned in the past. I intend to call Toyota about the brake issue, but haven't had time when they are open.

Dealerships are mostly the same for non luxury vehicles. Those of you wanting a "better" dealership experience need to step up to Lexus, Acura, BMW, Mercedes, etc, as those dealers offer those additional services. If you just want the dealer to do their job, you might have to go to a few different ones and choose.
The dealer is NOT Toyota, or Ford or Jeep. They are private companies who only sell the vehicles.
