Second time I've washed the truck since September, I should probably stop washing all together, nothing good comes out of it
I remember this happening to another member, would like to know the outcome.
Also they didn't seize per se, seems like a mechanical glitch in the hill assist, I felt the second it released, felt a thump in the brake pedal. My wife was next to me, she was disappointed in the new truck.
Took 3 restarts and a bunch of cycling from reverse to drive, about 5 minutes to get it going.

Never had it happen to me on any vehicle I have ever owned, washed my Tacoma this morning and didn't leave for 6 or 7 hours later and all was fine.

I have washed my SR weekly since I got it and have not experienced this issue. Do you wash it and let it sit overnight?

    Never heard.
I know that if the rotors are hot and your wash them, there's will be some adhesion within a caliper, but this wasn't it, this is brakes holding for whatever reason

Never had anything like that happen to me, and I have washed the truck in below 0 Celsius weather.

I agree, I've driven a lot of different vehicles over a lot of years in a lot of different climates and that's never happened to me either. But now I own a taco so .....

Some member stated they had to put it on 4low to break the brakes free. Are you sure it wasn't that?

What's causing this ? If it's a known issue and their are lots of threads on it what's the cause and what's the cure?

That's so amazing, drum brakes have been around since brakes were invented. What did Toyota decide to do different ?

+1. Have never had anything of the sort happen with any vehicle I have ever owned.

I always make sure to "pulse" the brakes when driving off after a wash to dry the pads/rotors a bit, but that's it.

Hank, what and where exactly did you direct water pressure? Just a regular wash and rinse? Nothing with open hood or direct spray into braking components?

I've done all of the above mentioned with a pressure washer to wash mud off and luckily, didn't have this happen. Did a heavy mud rinse twice and one snow grime (ground volcanic rock) pressure wash. You've got us all concerned, especially if you're mechanically competent.

Did you engage your parking brake? I use it all/ every time. Keeps cables free and the shoes adjusted properly also.

No pressure washer, no hood open, just regular wash and rinse with a garden hose.
I also use my parking brake every time I park, so they're "conditioned"
This wasn't rear brakes, this was front I'm sure of that

I'd check the ABS connectors at the rear axle and front spindles. Water intrusion might be making them behave strange since they are what controls/senses the pulsing of the traction aids.

Those are the only things I can think of that could get wet and affect what you described. Next time you wash it, dry everything around the ABS connector areas externally and pop all the connectors off to see if you have any water intrusion. Factory may have popped the connectors on and tweaked the seals. It does happen.
