I have a red tacoma and the red plastic front bumper is noticeably faded. I use Mothers Back to Black trim and plastic restorer and it works great but only lasts a few days. Does anybody have any other suggestions on what could be used that would be longer lasting?

    Thanks

Sadly, you'd have to Prime and paint to make it last.

Polish and wax just like you use on the rest of the paint.

That's not what the mothers is for. So you need to prep the bumper carefully with something like Dawn dishsoap to finish removing all that before you start to polish.

Your red is a single stage paint, but it's not as durable on the plastic bits because of the flex agent in it. When you polish, your rag is going to turn red. That's the dead pigment you are removing, it's what creates the 'fade' look.

If you polish correctly/enough, you will not get red on your rag when you wax.

Those plastic parts need to be cleaned/waxed at least 2x as much as the rest of the body.

Tip: We have a detailing forum. Check it out.
