I just noticed after polishing out some scratches in my truck this evening by hand, that I was taking straight paint right off the front bumper? WTF? Theres no clearcoat? Is this right? Fenders have clearcoat on them and they're the same material. My front bumper is starting to fade already, what is up with this??????

That sounds like something was right. What polish were you using? Did you use an acid base products? I have waxed my front bumper and nothing like that has happened. I would take it to the dealer.

I wasn't waxing, I was polishing. I shouldn't be taking off paint when I polish if there is a clearcoat. No clearcoat is causing my paint to fade on the bumper. Give it 6 months and my bumper will be pink. I'll be PO'd if this happens.

BTW its the same stuff I always use. My dad owns a detailing business, I get all my stuff from him. I think the stuff I'm using right now is a meguiars product. I've used it for years and have never had a problem. It has nothing to do with the polish.

    Not yet,
Did you buy your truck new? If not it could have been replaced.

I would take it to the dealer you got the truck from and have them look at it..

I'm all the way across the nation from where I bought it :p I'm sure they'd help me if I was there. Regardless the dealer here has been fairly decent. I'll probably talk to them, but just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem.

Don't tell the dealer you were polishing it.

They will probably say that you caused the bumper to weaken the paint because you used a bad polish......blah blah.....

They always make an excuse if you were doing something to your truck, even though the bumper shouldn't have done it in the first place.

Well if I did that then why isn't the rest of the truck fading and paint rubbing off? They'll be hearing from me tommorow.

Well, after forgetting this a ton of times, I finally heard back from the Service Manager who spoke with a corporate rep who basically said no, I'm way too far out of warranty. BS. Whatever. at least I can do something about it for cheap. Good ol' spray booth at work.
