I just got a new NAPA front CV shaft and it came with what seems to be an extra spacer behind the actual axle nut. Do I need to use this piece? When I put it in it keeps me from being able to fit the locking ring back over the nut. My factory shaft did not have this extra spacer....

Without the spacer it’s perfect. I dunno what it was for...

I did those shafts in two trucks and left the spacer off on both. Not sure what it’s for either!

When I bought my truck used it had an aftermarket front CV without a spacer. The cotter pin hole was so far from the spindle nut that the spindle nut retainer was not engaging the cotter pin. I'm thinking this spacer offsets the spindle nut enough to have the cotter pin engage the retainer if this is an issue.

ABS delete spacer. I assume all of ya'll have anti lock brakes?

I don't so I have to use the spacer.

Or maybe the previous spacer was left in so you don't need two?

I don’t have ABS and the cv I replaced was still stock so I had never touched it. It didn’t have the spacer.

It's inside the outer bearing seal. (inside side, if that makes sense) if I'm remembering correctly.

    Anyway...a seal holds it in.

Actually I think there is a spacer AND an ABS delete ring or an ABS ring if equipped.

I'd have to refer back to the parts diagram. I've taken apart too many different makes since mine to remember exactly what was in there but do know the ring is needed if removed.

    I don't think it's a wear item. Don't see how anyway.

    #13, 14 and/or 12 is ABS ring.

So you either have 13 and 14 or 12 and 14 in there.
