First, yes the drain bolt is a pain in the ass. Best to use a torch before you even try to loosen it.
Second, the cheap harbor freight welders suck. Their AC current and flux core. I had one and upgraded to a century fc 90. It's 200$ and it's DC and an inverter so it's alot smaller. I've welded my sliders, bumper, and cab mount relocates with it and haven't had any failures.
Third, use a nut. It will give you more surface are to weld to. This is what I did.

hit it with kroil or pb blaster for a few days i n a row. notch it with a dremel as mentioned, heat it up good and hot, spray air in a can upside to the center for a few seconds to chill the bitch and give it a few whacks. should come right out for ya

I'm sorry you must phrase your answer as a question.

Edit. Get in there and scrape the crap out of the hex hole before inserting the Allen wrench, socket, etc. I've yet to strip mine after several fluid changes doing this.

Worst design ever...I tried all the tricks when mine stripped, nothing worked. Took it to a local shop, he welded a nut onto the stripped plug for $20, good to go.

Agree with the exception of the Hooker. With so many Restaurants, Bars and Strip joints closed. Might be a good time for a man to get a good deal. :D

Get a sacrificial torx bit a bit too big for the hole and hammer it in there. Or a chisel.

Another question. How were you grounding your welder when you tried to weld that nut on?

Had the same thing happen on my 1st gen Taco. As said above ^, I cut a very small line into the face and edge of the bolt. Grab a chisel and a large hammer, smack it till it comes loose.
