Front Diff Fluid Level?

Noticed the other day that my breathers let out some gear oil, probably just condensation in the lines but checked my front diff level anyways. New to this truck and was curious if this is a sufficient amount of oil? Not to the top of the fill hole but can still get my finger wet when reaching in. Is it worth getting some

75w-90 and topping it off or am I just worrying to much

 

If you haven't changed it yet, then best to drain and refill. New crush washer gaskets while you are in there. It looks dirty from here.

 

You worry too much. Picture aside, the fact that your finger tip gets oily when you reach in thru the fill hole says that the oil level is sufficient.

A few years ago I filled my front differential until the oil came running out the fill hole. Nothing happened until one day when I stopped four-wheeling and hit the pavement, at 70 mph, for about 2 miles. Then I realized I was still in 4WD so I shifted back to 2WD drive and continued home. When I got home I noticed that I had heavy oil all over the left of the undercarriage and going back to the rear bumper. I wiped and dried all that I could find, and since then haven't had any problems. Just sayin'...

 

I depends on how far you stick your finger down in there.
I usually just stick tip of my finger down in there to the first joint.

if fluid is on my finger GTG.

FWIW, Toyota says 5mm / ~.25" below the hole.

Personally, I fill it up until it runs out the fill hole.
Let it stop running out and stick the plug back in and call it good.

Sometimes, but not always, I will recheck the level.

My front diff puked gear oil out the breather too.
I refilled it, it did it again.
I finally said. the hell with it and let it "be low".

 

Like I said in the other thread you made, the diff will overheat and fluid can exit those lines if you overfill it. Filling the diff up to the fill hole and then immediately putting the fill plug in was enough for my diff to overheat and cover the bottom of my truck in fluid from those breather lines. Now, like was said above, I fill the diff up, wait until fluid stops dripping out of the fill hole. Then put the plug back in. Never had another issue.
