Nope at that point I wouldnt blame them at all. That being said Im 99% sure the gears in the front diff are destroyed.

I should also add. I had the truck regeared in may 2022. I went back in September to have a front locker installed. Maybe there was some error reinstalling when I went in for the front locker

so if the front diff locked up the power from the engine was still there and might have mucked up something in the transfer case? thus the oil leaking on the transfer case. just a thought

Yep exactly my thoughts. Looks like the flange/seal on the case broke where the front driveshaft connects. I cleaned it off and thats the only spot thats leaking.

Small update. The shop was busy this week so my truck pretty much sat at the shop all week. It is what it is, im glad they tried to squeeze me in. They said the gears failed likely due to lack of gear oil flow. They are replacing the gears and want to order new bearings as well. Making an appointment to get that fixed after new years. I ordered a companion flange seal and an oil seal for the front output shaft on the transfer case from toyota to stop that leak. If I can get the front driveshaft off (without being able to rotate it cause the diff is still siezed) ill just replace those at home. If not then ill just take those parts to the shop when I drop the truck off. Thankfully the shop has been easy to work with. Until then im on prerunner mode

Is that wordsmith for “we flat forgot to fill with oil”? Sounds like it, but glad to hear they’re taking care of it.

i would just have the shop install the flange, that's if you get it in before they do the diff fix.

The techs can correct me off I’m wrong, but I’ve never seen a diff that didn’t just lubricate internally, simplify by being bathed in gear oil and the rotation of the ring gear circulating the oil.

I grenaded my front diff by accidentally running it low on oil (don’t ask, it was really stupid). The pinion bear seized and failed first. It spun in the house and broke the carrier then all the debris broke and locked up the gears. So I’m surprised if it was low on oil that the bearing wasn’t the start of the failure.

I don’t think they even dropped the diff to check honestly. Ill get the full story posted when they actually replace the gears. My money is on a ring gear bolt backing out and seizing everything

2AE77720-7C03-4B1B-A074-05247E616412.jpg Im sure this will help someone in the future. Part numbers to replace the FRONT output shaft seal, companion flange seal, and staked nut. Im thinking the output shaft seal must have bent and started leaking

B6EDBBE4-52AC-4964-8EDF-0F19F76B17C2.jpg That happened on my break in on my first ECGS diff. Drove it about 15 minutes and came home to cool it off. Walked behind the truck and saw oil all over the ground. For whatever reason the pinon seal was torn. I had a solid spacer so I replaced the seal. This diff made it 3 more months. Second one last 4 months. I got 3 months out of the 3rd one before it broke and I decided fuck it and put my sport axle back under the truck.

Ouch I wonder why yours failed so many times. Hoping its not too hard to unbolt my front driveshaft to fix the seal since I cant spin the driveshaft. On a side note thanks for helping me with my 63 swap! Think you gave me a few pointers on Instagram

You might have to cut and sacrifice a 14mm wrench or use a wobble impact to get at it. Or torch it off.:anonymous::bananadead:
