After the 3rd one they offered to build me a D60 with the original cost knocked off. I didn’t want to cough up $3,200 so I put my stock shit back in for now. It’s been a year. The bitterness of 3 tow bills over $850 and my labor has just about wore off enough I might revisit the idea of gears and lockers.

I bought a cheap duralast wobble. Looks like I can get the front driveshaft off easy. Just waiting on toyota to get my seals in. Hopefully i can get that leak fixed before I take my truck in to have the gears redone

How do you crack a transfer case? Going 30 mph in 4wd usually won't do that.
Sorry for your problems but just looking for the full story. The full story usually will teach newbies not to do that.

I wish there was more to it but thats the full story. Ring and pinion failed and the driveshaft locked up. Stressed the transfer case and cracked it.

I believe you for final failure. Had you done anything beforehand that could have, over time, weakened it? Just curious.

Bit the bullet and ordered myself a used transfer case. If the shop offers to cover the cost great. If not then at least ill have it waiting in the garage for me to swap in.

i wonder if this is a Gear quality issue or a set up issue. i plan on getting 4.88 soon and 4WP offers yukon branded gears.

Wow. I guess when the front diff bricked, all that energy has to go somewhere, and it looks like it went into your transfer case housing!

Sorry for your grief. Hopefully most of your costs get covered and you come out with newfound skills and knowledge.

Grabbed a used transfer case with 22k miles on it and 1L of Toyota’s magic transfer case oil. Taking the truck in to get the front diff fixed tomorrow. Fingers crossed they offer to cover the cost of the case. If not, at least I have it on hand ready to swap
