Went to my toyota dealer for transfer case oil and they gave me this. Doesnt look correct but it does say “transfer” on it. Thoughts? Going to leave it in the transfer case until sunday and put some redline mtlv in it. Also got the old case pulled out. Was pretty easy. C651C62C-B935-453A-A861-B45055524638.jpg

They fixed the font diff but made it seem like they were doing me a one time favor. I went to this shop (i should just say their name at this point) because they claimed to have 1 year warranty on parts and labor

Bad design from Toyota. Hell I wouldn’t be surprised if they tried to blame him for using four wheel drive at this point.

If they knew that Toyota had design issues in the front diff (regarding oiling), as a reputable-knowledgeable shop, they could have warned you before taking on the task of installing gears for you.

    Absolute warranty cop out IMO.

They absolutely should be advertised as less than a good shop from your actual experience.

Shops can get good press for good work, so they should also get bad press for bad work.

    Hey,
Red Seal tech here. I would have to see it to fully understand the failure. Looking at the tooth contact pattern at the back it looks a little too much into the heel and low on the face but looking at the close end the pattern looks way off so if my assessment is correct on that I would suspect excessive runout of the ring gear due to either a manufacturing defect of the ring gear or carrier, or improper install or disassembly of the ring gear creating excess run out.. either should of been caught during setup if what i'm seeing from the tooth contact is correct. Furthermore you setup the tooth contact pattern with pinion contact in the case so I would of sent a picture of the carrier in the case because when you remove it there is a possibility of the pattern changing so unless they rechecked the pattern while it was in the case and assembled I would honestly disregard that picture of the tooth contact. In regards to the stuck pinion I would have to see it to understand fully but, for the most part of it can't be removed by mechanical means such as a slide hammer or puller or such. I would replace the case. A torch can work but the risk of changing the metallurgy from excess heat is very high. Even if the metal doesn't glow. The fact it was stuck though to boot is a red flag to me but I wasn't there to see why exactly it was stuck

I'm pissed reading this, because everything is screaming it was not setup properly and you're left eating it. Thank you for sharing the picture of the truck.

damn this sucks. future cost aside ECGS for the win on any completes. Just got my diff back for a second warranty on their 5 year warranty. 99.9% sure not any direct issues with setup but a combination of things. No argument aside. Sucks to hear what happened to you @Shadowhunter but the 5 year warranty was one of the main reasons I went with them

this shop has done a lot of gear installs for a ton of people on TW with some of their Gear install deals.

Also @trail.taco that gear oil for the transfer case is what you want from toyota. Supposed to have a Formula that no one else has although others are very close to it. I run Lucas in my front/rear and the toyota oil you posted in the transfer case.
