I had my CV axles rebuilt due to a clanking , knocking and grinding noise from my front end.
The noise still there , but not as severe as before the rebuilt CVs, but still... It occurs at slow speeds, when braking and turning.
I returned to the shop that rebuilt the CVs and they couldn't fix the problem. Could improperly aligned CVs cause the noise issue?

Do you have a lift on the truck? If you have more than 2 inch lift you may need to put spacers under the differential to straighten out your CV axels with your wheel hub. I had to replace a bearing in my differential in the driver side. That stopped the grind/clunk noise for me.

Thanks for your reply. I have an ICON lift on it. I don't know how high or if I have spacers to straighten out the axles. I'll inquire about the wheel bearing. Is part of the axle rebuild or should be done in addition too?

    Regards

Not wheel bearing, it’s the needle bearing in the front differential. Grab your cv axle on the driver side and give it a tug. If it moves where it goes into the differential you probably need a new one. Try upgrading to the bushing from east coast garage. https://youtu.be/nllcwqI1YVI

Gentlemen, I’m coming across the same issue while in 2wd, slight humming/ vibrating feeling coming through the floorboard. I’m trying to troubleshoot, I know if you out it in 4wd the noise/feeling should go away. In my case when I throw it in 4wd it gets significantly louder. Could this still be the needle bearing or could it be a more serious issue inside of the diff. Thanks for the help in advance guys!
