Dumb question, but can you drive in 2hi with low oil in front diff? I figure yes, but want to confirm with some experts on here. I just replaced my CV's and lost some front diff oil in the process. Forgot I had no spare oil left in the jug. Only got spare t-case oil. Gotta drive to parts store to buy a jug.:facepalm:

The manual in my truck says they different. Diffs take 75w85 and tcase takes 75w90. I mean in sure I can just put one in the other, but why not follow what toyota says?

Also I'm guessing you don't know the answer to my original question?

Wait so you're worried about the difference in oil weights so you'd rather run the diff empty?

I put the same oil in my transfer case as I do my diffs. Actually, I put about any diff oil in my rear diff and change it every 30k, but I use Lucas in my manual transmission, my transfer case and my front diff.
You can use the oil you have or yes, you can drive it a little low for a short distance in 2wd and it shouldn't hurt anything. I wouldn't recommend it on a regular basis but a quick trip to your local auto parts store shouldn't hurt anything.

I don’t know about the front.
But there might have been a certain person (not saying names)
That drove to Toyota with Rear Diff Fluid Leaking and Low go get parts.

Yes, I could have added some. But I drove straight to Toyota when I seen Diff Fluid slung all over the inner fender well. Actually the smell clued me in on it first.

I hope never to do that job again.
