i bought a 2016 TRD off road from the dealer with a 4 inch lift and 285's. I almost immediately noticed an audible vibration and rubbing noise when in 2WD.

I assumed it was because of the lift, 4,000 miles later the dealer was doing an inspection and told me it needs a new front diff.

Not only does it need a new front diff right now but Toyota is apparently coming out with a new diff in 6 months for the 2016 tacomas. At that time I'll have a 2nd new diff put in. What's going on with these Differentials?

Search forum for needle bearing and ECGS. You'll read about it.

You lifted it and put very large tires on it so your warranty on this will likely be FUBAR.

Carrier bearing has been an issue since 05 i believe (maybe earlier?) On lifted 4x4 trucks driving in 2wd. I doubt toyota dealt with the endless warranty claims for 10 years and didnt change the diff, installed said shitty diff in newly redesigned truck only to change it 2 years in. Maybe thats to go with the diesel and v8 2018 tacos :bananadead:

My bone stock 16 OR had the needle bearing start going out at about 9k. The dealership told me the replacement bearing was a new Toyota redesign. We'll see if the vibes come back in another 9k.
For what it's worth, I had to have my transfer case actuator replaced before that. Hoping it's simply bad luck of the draw on those components and not a sign of reliability issues to come throughout the life of the vehicle.

What is with all these problems with the 16-17 TRD ORs, these sound like mass produced junk. Are these Toyotas best seller, if they are, that ought to tell you something right there....
