I noticed my 2020 AC manual sport does not have a front diff temp sensor, but have seen many pictures of other (potentially older year) 3rd gens with front diff temp sensors.

is it a model year difference or did only offroad/pros get the front diff temp sensors?

Not a big deal, just a question out of curiousity.

Wiring diagram shows it but I’m not sure if it’s just for the off road and pro.

2016 OR manual and definitely have it. I bet y'all do too. I was under the impression it was on all 3rd gens no matter but I haven't researched it. Take pictures where it should be and we'll confirm.

Doesn't display, unless it exceeds threshold and causes the dashboard to become unhappy with you.

Need techstream to see its current value... (or alternatively I suppose there is a PID..)

Ah okay. Then I stand corrected. I probably have it. I thought the OP was asking about a display like the inclinometer and pitch that the off-roads have.

@BigWhiteTRD is right, it displays nowhere and is used to throw trouble codes only. You can read/plot the value using techstream.

I did quick research and I couldn't confirm it's standard on *all* 4x4 2016+ trucks. It's located on the rear of the diff on the passenger side of the pinion just forward of the engine oil pan. The harness runs along the pass side axle tube before routing up to the front axle harness bracket.

Sorry diff is out of the truck right now so I don’t have a pic with the same angles but you can reference the ARB locker fitting for location.

Edit: this photo sucks, I'll go out and take another photo in a few....

This should make it more obvious. Again, 2020 manual trans sport

Likewise I can't confirm all years or trims, but all the 2016 schematics show it (with no indication that it is optional).

Did you install the ARB in your stock diff? Was there an entire clamshell swap done to do the install?

It could be a model year thing removed from newer trucks and I guess it could be a trim level thing as well. In the factory service manual for the earlier 3rd gen trucks I can't find a mention of the front diff oil temp sensor being only on specific trims.

You mark both halves? I'm just asking because this brings in outside variables and the diff in the 2nd gen is the exact same thing without a temp sensor. But if you pulled it out, you'd know if you had the temperature sensor connected in your harness.

Toyota may have axed it. Haven't seen many "Got a front diff temperature warning light, what do I do?" posts. It may not have served the purpose Toyota intended. Or it's possible it's an access cab thing. I guess what I'm saying is I don't have a clue. But I've noted it.

hm i'd have to take a look to see which half I marked, but seems like something ECGS wouldn't have any reason to mix up. I don't remember unplugging any temp sensor but that was a while ago. I'll know if i have an open plug when i go to reinstalling it soon.
