500k miles is what the ECGS Clamshell Bushing FAQ says by the way...

    Always in process
I used a 3 jaw puller with a slide hammer to remove the needle bearing on my 2nd gen way back when. But I just got the ECGS bushing for my 3rd gen and got their removal tool with it this time.

For the HF rear axle puller I think you'd need to measure them against the bushing and housing to make sure it will work. For $60 I opted for something that I know will work

@smitty99 How long did it take you to develop the vibrations?

Installed a very mild 1.5" lift with bilstein 6112s, noticed it immediately upon exiting the driveway after just having lowered it off the jackstands. It happened just that quick and yes with only a very small lift.

Kings, 275/70/17, a few custom items, lots of Meso mods.
Mine took about 300 miles to notice anyway with a 2.5 lift. I read somewhere to last the life of the truck. Most won't get too 500k with the same owner but there will be a few.

I think I may just pay the 60 bucks for their tool just for peace of mind. This vibration is worrying me so I just wanna get it done.

For $60 I agree...it is one of those jobs you just don't want to risk fucking up on. Do it once, do it right and you should be golden for the life of the vehicle. Also their instructions say to run slightly heavier grade gear oil than OEM (I believe OEM is lighter than ECGS recommendation of 85w-140) I used Lucas 85-140 based on their recommendation.

I look at it this way. Toyota couldn't or wouldn't put in the effort to get this issue fixed with a better more permanent solution. ECGS developers figured it out and recommend a different gear oil....I'm going with their recommendation.

Totally agree with you. Did you have to flush all the old gear lube out or just drain it and refill? Also I take it there's no need for a friction modifier?

The heavy Lucas gear oil that's recommended benefits in this application because
    1) it provides a thicker layer of protection between the axle and are new bushing
    2) The heavier gear oil takes up some of the slop out of the side gear which is the inherent manufacturing problem that causes all this, so the heavy gear oil helps take up some of that slack in the side gear and that also calms vibrations.

Changed my diff fluid after I put it in and found a piece of the old bearing. Glade I did it right away.

J7st took mine to the dealer. They said it was the tires and they rotated them. They acted oblivious to the problem. My bushing will be here tomorrow. I wonder if I should just forget the dealer and put the bushing in.

If I install the bushing do I need to drain and refill the diff oil? And are you guys using the ecgs recommended fluid type or the oem?

I used the ECGS recommended 85w-140 Lucas brand.

Yes you'll want to just drain it all out. It's less than 2 quarts (I think 1.6 is how much I used) BTW I believe all this is discussed on this page and the previous page.

I'm glad you got that fixed Smitty. Weren't you going to wait until your howling differential was fixed before doing the lift? Did you just get tired of waiting?

I wish I knew you were going to do the bushing. I'd have loaned you my bushing tool.

I've installed 2 myself on previous trucks and have about 100k miles on them after the swap. No problems so far. I don't know about 500k but the part should last as long as you own the truck.
