2nd gen TSB Part no# is same as 3rd gen part #. I tried it back in jan16 for giggles and got same results. Still haven't seen any other solutions for the issue other than the ECGS.

I can now install them in 10 minutes :) I even have a cool spacer to protect the seal now haha.

Any guess if it's what my issue is with all the side to side wiggle?

It's supposed to do that, all cv axle clips retain them with play like that for expansion and tolerances. In fact that's how I check to make sure they are installed correctly.

In and out, and side to side? Just seems a bit excessive. The passenger side is much tighter... Probably half the play.

Believe passenger side uses a bushing for some reason. Can't remember where I saw that or why they'd vary.

Probably due to the housing extension rather than the axle sliding into the actual differential side gear like on the drivers side.

All CV axles do it in one form or another.

If the needle bearings are already well worn, putting it in 4x4 might not make it go away.

In and out is normal as already mentioned. The wiggling up and down, or front to back is what is causing the vibes. ECGS bushing will make it as tight, if not tighter, than the passenger side.

Thanks. Guess I'll order and hope it solves the issue.

I plan on leveling out the front of my SR5 soon, and I'm going to do the bushing / seal replacement while I have it torn apart.

So if anyone has one of the EGCS needle bearing pullers and knows how to accurately measure things, could you please give me the dimensions of the threaded needle bearing puller plate, the LWH dimensions of the cross bar and the thread diameter and length of the threaded rod, which from the picture looks to be ½-13 thd, as I want to make my own puller.

If anyone has the puller, but isn’t capable of accurately measuring the puller parts, I would gladly pay the shipping and return postage for mailing me the puller so that I can measure the parts.

I’m also going to machine up a piloted bushing and seal driver out of aluminum, which I have done many times before over the years for repair jobs.

Lots of people mention removing the 35mm axle nut and the tie rod end in order to do this job. According to this thread neither of those needs to be removed. Granted this was 2nd gen but it shouldn't matter.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ecgs-bushing-replacement-and-write-up-to-follow.472081/

I've gotten all my parts/tools ready to go and I'll try the bushing replacement without removing those two items. Heading to Austin for the MotoGP race this weekend so hopefully I'll be able to get to this by the following weekend.
